Crazy weekend

Monday, March 29, 2010

This video just made me very very sad...

We share the same world, the same earth, yet....

It's something for us to think about.

Anyway, I had a crazy weekend, and the craziness didn't stop there.

I'm at SCBE again right now, supposedly to study and do work (but apparently my harddisk has decided to make it hard for me to continue ICT, it hanged!! I better back-up soon sehhhhh) but as usual, visit facebook first... And here I am now on blogger...

So yeah, crazy weekend....

Started off with Friday rush. Had ICT meeting at noon, and so had to create and fill a PBWiki page AND I also had to rush my Chem lab report before going for lab prac. Completed it late and went to lab late. I seem to miss the briefing every week. Thank God I have a friend like Harizah...

After lab, met up with the Bio gang (only Harizah and Jeffrey couldn't join us) to celebrate Pie's birthday at Sakura Pioneer. Haha, he kena saboed and he enjoyed it! We truly filled our stomach (though I had it better this time... the last time I went Sakura with family was super duper kenyang, tak senonoh seh perangai). And because we laughed and laughed and laughed (satu satu kerenah HAHA) we couldn't eat that much. It was a happy Friday night I should say.... Had been 'enjoying' myself alot sehh...

After the dinner celebration, I rushed home (did some work on the train to save time) and finished up the 3 e-learning ALS tasks. Managed to submit all within the last few minutes seh, haha, alhamdulillah. Perangai last minute habis! Buruk!

Then on Saturday morning, I attended the CLF at SMU. I was late, and pretty much lost, so I was so paiseh to enter initially. But then, what's the point of just sitting outside alone right?? So just braved myself and entered. They were still on the first speaker. He was a very good presenter! Mr Sunny Goh... Hmmm... Eventhough I was lost in the topic (I didn't go in the hope to understand anything anyway.... ), I felt that he managed to engage the audience well. I didn't really enjoy the second speaker. I dunno, I just find his presentation opinionated uhh... And his mimik2 muka tak penting eh. Maybe it's just me uh... I didn't get a feedback form to say that...

The discussion session was interesting. Open for 'debate' amongst the presenters, commentators and audience. About race vs class. About the media. And more uh. I felt out of place, the feeling of 'macam-paham'ness but since I told myself, "I'm here to be exposed to this, to observe..." and so, that's exactly what I was there to gain. I wish I can speak as well as them. 3 years to train myself to present better...

Afterwards, I walked around Bugis Junction to find a suitable present for Ad. I took a long time walking round and round. Some of the shops, I visited at least thrice la seh! I ended up buying three things for myself too. Yikes! My mum just told me not to spend unnecessarily these few months up to October to contribute abit to my eldest brother's wedding preparations. Uh oh. Felt so guilty for spending after that. But I needed the new wallet. My old wallet dah koyak rabak, zip pon dah tercabut. The air freshener thingy was a different matter though. Argh!!!

Then I rushed to pray, get murtabak, meet Jamie at Tampines, put the present together and travel to Changi Beach for Ad's birthday celebration....

Ad... I miss youuuuuu!!!!

We were there for a short while only, cos Ad had to rush back to her house for awhile to get the booking receipt for the pit and shelter, and since I had to go off anyway, I follwed her to Simei; Faj drove. Faj wore tudung already, so sweet! She's the 3rd friend I see started wearing tudung last year/this year. So anyway, when I parted with Ad at Simei, we hugged and I really felt like crying. I felt so so bad for having to leave early. I felt so so bad for not being there when she had the operation, or when she was facing life's challenges. She updated me about some things in the car, and I was like, "How I wish I could have been there... What a friend, I didn't even know..." Really, on the way to Simei mrt alone, I really felt like crying. I have truly neglected my family and friends. I dunno if what I'm practicing is the best for all, but yeah, I feel bad, I feel guilty.

I reached Masjid Kassim at 7 plus, just in time for Maghrib. After Maghrib, straightaway went for my duty for registration. Since I was handling registration, I entered the talk late. The talk was interesting, but... either I was too tired, or really, my heart needs some spiritual cleansing. It was hard for me to absorb what the lecturer was talking about. Maybe it's my perception that it would be a heavy topic which caused me hard to concentrate and make sense of it all. But I guess I managed to get the gist of it, especially with the follow-up by Ust Noor afterwards during dinner/supper. It makes me think and ponder, and gave me a headache as the topping on the ice-cream aka lack of sleep. InsyaAllah I'll attend all 8 talks. May Allah ease the path for me...

I reached home late. Argh! Dahlah weekdays duduk hostel, weekends pon sehari suntuk takde rumah, ish ish ish... But then, the time spent at home isn't quality time with the family anyways. I'll just be surfing the net. But then again, to come home so late, it just so... I dunno what's the right word... I guess, 'disrespectful'? Not that I'm very respectful of my parents to begin with, but hey, I'm trying.

Since I came home late, I woke up late the next morning! Ni seriously, bangun terkejut beruk nye. I woke up, saw the clock, and was like, "OHMYGOD! MAAAA!!!" Hahahaha. It was like 8.30, and I was supposed to relief a class at 8am!!!!! Crazy seh... Luckily, the main trainer for my class was still there. She didn't even know I was supposed to relief. Even the office didn't have my name on the list, anyway!!! Apparently I was supposed to replace another relief...

But yeah. The first class was like out of control seh. It was a sec 2 class. Very incooperative! But I let the main trainer just continue what she was doing uh. I had to conduct one of the activities, but only the start, cos after that the main trainer took over back. I felt redundant haha. But good experience of trying to control a class like that...

The next class was a good experience. Not without it's set of challenges of course. I had to relief with Kak Rabiah. Apparently she's a relief too, and so neither of us know where the students stopped and can't prepare much. When finally we got to figure out where the class stopped (from the students who came early/on time rather), we then found out that we couldn't open the slides. So I did a quick slide presentation according to the lesson plan. Copy paste seh! I managed to do halfway only. Continued again during break. And all in all, I did up a spontaneous slide presentation of 18 slides in that 2 and 1/2 hrs!

The topic was about physical care. But our focus was on beautiful soul. It was an interactive class. I loike! We talked about fairy tales, we read an article, we watched a video, we had group discussions, we had sharings, we had questions (dajjal semua keluar sehhh). Fun experience! The class was easier to handle. I only had trouble with one group who refused to discuss together throughout the whole class! I have a problem with quiet people. I dunno how to make them talk, seriously.

I'sd love to teach their class again :)))) But I can't commit uh... Especially since their class is at 11.30-2.30 and normally I'd have to attend my own class! Just that today has one week (or rather, one day) break.

Speaking of class... I think I I haven't been getting knowledge, I'd just been acquiring more and more information... I hadn't truly understood and applied those 'information' to life. Ish ish... I don't think I am a good representation of DPI students. Hish!

Need to be more humble. Need to remind myself that what I know is comparable to just a drop of water in the whole wide world. Maybe even less....

Ok, I should really get back to work. Spent more than 2 hours on this already. Aiyooooooo!

I wanna go out of Sg during the hols. Hopefully NEMC KRC falls on a holiday Sunday when I have no madrasah!!

Tardiness

Monday, January 25, 2010

I had a posting due at 10.30am. I fell asleep while doing it, only to wake up and realise that it was already 10.26am! I finished it up quickly and manage to submit by 10.42am, ish ish ish.

I've spent the next hour commenting on two of my friend's posts, which is the homework for this week. So, that one done!

Now now, I have 3 tutorials to finish up, 2 halfway through... Wonder if I have the willpower to finish them up by Asar. Then tomorrow I can work on my presentation for FOC. Need to improve my presentation skill! Guess I'll work on that this year, while still working on my leadership skill. It's been quite some time since I was in a leadership role, and I'd forgotten how freakingly intimidating it can be, yikes!

Oh, I'm at home. Finally, after 6 days at hostel! I'm so happy both classes are cancelled today! But since the sahur committee wanna have a dinner gathering after so long, I would be heading back to hostel after Asar insyaAllah.

Anyway, I'll be registering to take up a motorbike license at BBDC on Tuesday. *sucks in deep breath!*

And I have decided not to take up the Arabic class at Zuhri afterall. I'm not willing to sacrifice my Saturday afternoons! I wanna look for short modules, preferably on Monday nights in the West maybe? I'll see how it goes...

Motorbike license, car license (which I have officially put on hold, perhaps till after I get a motorbike license) and Arabic class are the 3 things I was considering on taking up for this year. I forgot to do one thing during my decision-making: istikharah. Nevertheless, I hope what I'd decided is still the best for me. Tawakkaltu ala Allah...

Oh, btw, there're two good books I wanna document the titles here.

I hope I'd have some time to share about some of the things I learn from Ustaz Kamsani in Tazkiatul Nufus. It's interesting. The way he deliver is very good, can evoke fear in your hearts while you ask, "What can I do???" and pray silently in your heart, "Ya Allah, please protect me! Please save me!"... then he'll make you laugh at his jokes, and sometimes even at yourself.... And he can make you smile thinking about what he just say, knowing hope is not lost :) Yet he is a very humble man...

Plans

Saturday, January 09, 2010

As a programmer, you plan to specific details, visualizing how every minute will be spent during an event. That is exactly how I'm trying to plan my weekly schedule such that it becomes a routine for me, with sufficient time to do everything I like.

Without events, I have Saturdays free and I wish to fill it up with something useful, rather than I sit at home and play facebook.

Currently I'm in my 3rd year of DPI right? Two more years to go. I plan to take up Sijil Pengajian Bahasa Arab at Zuhri on Saturday afternoons. It is a 2 year programme, so by the time I finish the Sijil, I'd finish my DPI as well. Before this I wasn't sure what I'd do after that, but now, I really really wish to continue with a Sijil Pengajian Al-Qur'an.... Though it's on saturdays, and I'm not sure if I can cope with practicum later on. Perhaps i'll have to see first how things go.

I'm abit torn between the two Sijils. Both really interest me. And I feel that learning more about the Qur'an is essential. But then again, in order to learn the Qur'an, it helps if you have a strong foundation of Arabic, and so it does sound more logical to learn Arabic first.

Hmmmmm....

Taqarrub ila Allah

Sunday, January 03, 2010

Today... I went to madrasah... We started the first lesson of this year (FYI: my year 3 sem 1 term 1) with a discussion within 4 groups. 1) female youths, 2) male youths, 3) female adults, 4) male adults. We were to discuss what we think people our age out there generally envision for themselves within the next 10 years... And we talked about 4 aspects. 1) career, 2) community, 3) religion, 4) community. It was an interesting discussion. Unfortunately, we did not have access to internet and such to back up what we say with survey findings etc.

Ustaz gave an insight (it was like a tazkirah) about how is the world like now. he reminded us, that with the passing of another year, we are one more year nearer to returning to Allah swt. Yet, the world nowadays are guiding us away from Allah instead of towards Allah. The older generations are putting their hand on the youths of today to be the leaders (be it political, spiritual etc) of tomorrow yet our youths nowadays are more concerned about glamour, about money. Sadly, the mindset now is such that, what is ma'aruf is viewed as mungkar, not only by the youths btw, while what is mungkar is viewed as ma'aruf (memang dasarlah sekarang ni aku confuse sangat2 dan sedang mencari apa yang haq).

Ustaz directed a question towards us, students of the DPI program, year 3 and above... "Apakah peranan aku dalam agama?" We are ambassodor of Islam everywhere we go. We are da'ie ila Allah, whether we like it or not. It is our role, our responsibility, our amanah as students of this program...

Actually, I do want to know more about what it is like out there. I realise that I have been closing one eye all these while. I'd been living in my own bubble, oblivious of what's happening out there. I say I want to outreach to the community, yet I do not know what is really the situation in the community. I realise that I had been assuming all these while, never really going out there to find out for myself, never really observing, opening my eyes wide to everything around me...

But how do I find out???

For BILL camp, we did a survey on the general public in Tampines. That was interesting. I like what Sufyan's group did. Sufyan, gangster like as he is, can be an asset to us actually. Hmmmm....

Anyway, the module title was actually 'Pengajian Tazkiah Nufus', which actually means 'membersihkan jiwa daripada sifat mazmumah, yang tak elok, kepada sifat mahmudah, yang mulia', which is actually wajib in our lives. Ustaz talked about our purpose in life, yakni: Tidak Aku menjadikan jin dan manusia melainkan untuk mengabdikan diri kepada Aku (Surah 51: ayat 56). It is 100%, no less, obedience to Allah.

Ustaz elaborated further about ibadah umum and ibadah khusus, and bring us to reflect how many of us, even us who learns about the religion, do not prioritise our ibadah khusus, like solat, zakat, puasa, selawat etc, when in fact it is much much more important than our ibadah umum, which is anything good that we do, that is halal, that gives benefit to others such as whatever we do for our job, our volunteer work etc...

Ustaz went on to talk about 2 syarat amalan kita diterima... 1) ihklas, which is beribadah semata-mata mencari keredhaan Allah s.w.t. 2) mengikut landasan syara'.

Woah... That's just the first lesson... 4 more lessons to go!

I feel...

Friday, December 18, 2009

I'm tired, very very tired, physically. I spent more than half the day today sleeping, to regain whatever energy I've lost. I can't be sure that I'd regained my energy back, cos my whole body is aching everywhere from silat training yesterday! My shoulders, my back, my arms, my thighs.... There were signs that my tendonitis might act up again, so I quickly applied the Fastum gel on the tendon area at the back of my ankles. Sapuan is very dangerous, to me at least.

I learned alot during silat yesterday. I think because now my heart is in it, that's why. Learned shuffling, learned more combos to earn points quickly, IF the opponent is not quick enough. I need to be more lightfooted, and be quick in planning and executing combos. Practice makes perfect!

And... I'd be missing 2-3 silat sessions next week and the following week. :(

But I'll be elsewhere learning other things. Not that I'll be having jolly good time. I'll be at... Persantren Kilat, organised by MHDS. I feel reluctant telling people I'm attending this, when they ask why I'd be away next week. Perhaps because of the different kinds of responses I got. It's a wide range of responses from very positive to very negative. 0_o

I have people who almost jumped up and down shouting, "You get to go?! Wah, bestnyer! I love the Ustaz! Ustaz best! Camp pon mesti best. But I can't go, my mum say the duration is too long..."

I have people who looked calm but said, "I heard it's very good. More on the 'intellectual' side, but good nevertheless."

I have people who looked indifferent and say, "Oh ok. I'm not sure I can go... see how."

I have people who went, "Alar... Kau pergi persantren ni kau takbleh join kitorang seh..."

I have people who exclaimed, "Hah??? Why are you wasting your money?"

I also have people laughing at me and asking, "Why are you going there at all?"

Well.... I'm confused. But yeah, just from this experience, you can see how people differ so much from each other. Primarily due to the principles/beliefs that they hold on to, the experiences that they've had, the knowledge that they've obtained and such. These responses just reminded me that I have so many different kinds of people surrounding me, and I have to mind how I am with them such that I don't offend them, yet still being myself such that I'm not a hypocrite. It really does boil down to the principles that I myself hold on to, the experience that I myself have had, and the knowledge that I myself had obtained. Right now, really I am confused. I have no idea how to react. So I just smile and nod. it's kind of a reflex action nowadays :S

What I know is that, ever since I heard Far'ain attending persantren and reading about persantren in Musafir Cinta, I'd been superbly curious what is it. I was ready to go to Indonesia to experience it, and I was ready to face whatever goes on in a persantren, JUST IN CASE it goes against my principles/belief system. However, I never did find out a reliable source for a persantren. Besides I have no idea how to tell my parents I'd be disappearing to some part of Indonesia for some religious thing that they've never heard (they don't know what is a persantren, even now I think) for like more than a week alone.

I did bring this up to my mum, referring to the persantren as some kind of short-term madrasah, and she allowed if I go with a sister.

Then... I heard about Persantren Kilat on facebook. And straightaway I signed up for it. Without even telling my parents first (but since it's in Singapore, I knew they should be ok with it, especially if I pay on my own, and I don't miss my madrasah --> penting youuu. they're used to me telling them last minute that I have an upcoming camp at this place, from what day to what day, and I'm going with so and so. I only ask for permission if it's overseas.)

Nevertheless I was worried. (Always first on my worry list is the sanitary condition of the place, but I'd been to the mosque once and I liked it, so it wasn't firstr on my worry list this time, except to wonder how I'd share that 4 cubicles or so with about 50 other sisters, since they're targetting 100 pax in total.) I was worried that I'm the oldest, that I'd find it a bore to go through the ta'alim/classes, that I'm alone (since none of my friends seem to be going, and most of the participnts that replied to the facebook invite seems to know each other through previous MHDS activities), that I'd be too tired to go through everything (I'd never been to a camp 7 days long! Normally, at the end of a 3-day camp, I'd spend the whole of the next day sleeping. I tire easily. Partly the reason why I take hostel...) Then the initial worry about the persantren having activities against my principles also started to settle in, knowing that I still lack the knowledge to truly differentiate from what is right and what is wrong.

Now that it is roughly only 12hrs away from the camp, I don't know what to think about.

What I'm really thinking about right now is that I've yet to pack my bag, yet to finish studying for my Arab exams this Sunday, yet to do the GESL reflections due end of the year, yet to alot of other outstanding tasks larh!

And I'd be missing silat... and fatayaats usrah, and fatayaats gathering and tathmin mibarrat... :( I'm giving up alot eh for this persantren... I really hope that I shall become a better Muslimah at the end of 7 days. That I'd somehow be a more disciplined, healthier Muslimah, with more friends, more experiences, more knowledge... all in the hope of achieving the main purpose of my journey here on earth. Mardhatillah... InsyaAllah. This shall be my niat. Niat is the spark. Niat determines the deed. Yet a good niat does not make a bad approach good... A reminder to myself, and everyone else.

I'm afraid I'd have to tanding for the tri-uni friendlies on 4th Jan @ SMU... High probability that I'd be chosen, considering that I seem to be the only freshie in Class B (overweight! overweight! need to watch it!) and I attended Tuesday's and yesterday's training.... scared scared scared!

Till then, I'm scared of my NIE results, and my new sem's timetable. *groans*

I should go pray, eat, iron clothes, pack bag, read Arab notes and sleeeeeeep 'early'.

Good night and have a nice week ahead!

P.S. Thanks Jun for the ride home yesterday. It feels exhiliratingly good on a bike :D
P.S.S. I watched Avatar at the movies just now. Liked it. Except for the foreign language, the violence, the Eywa rituals and belief system and the... ahem. (Teringat Ust Noor nye talk during NEMC qiyam about media...). But still, guess it's a nice alternative after watching New Moon. You may wanna skip the 3D, unless you're watching on the biggest screen. A small screen doesn't make much difference, except for the no. of bucks left in your pocket, hehe.

Orang Ketiga

Sunday, December 13, 2009

Marliyana ada banyak cerita niari. Marliyana tak tau nak mula dari mana. Random k.

Marliyana lapar. satu hari cuma makan kuih belanda (yang biscuit roll tu), nasi minyak pat jemputan tengahari tadi dan 1 roti sardine bersalut telur. Tapi kat rumah tinggal maggi je and Marliyana ngah pikir banyak-banyak kali pasal MSG dalam maggi. Marliyana taknak jadi bodoh. Marliyana suka jadi pandai.

Marliyana niari bangun awal. Pukul 2 pagi bangun belajar Tafsir, pukul 4 tertido, pukul 5 bangun balik, pukul 6 tertido, pukul 7 bangun balik. Alhamdulillah dapat habis 90% ulangkaji, tapi bila duduk untuk exam tu cam tak tahu cammane nak apply. Lagi-lagi kertas 2, closed book, dia mintak hukum yang rajih (ni ok jugak) berserta hujjah-hujjah ulama'-ulama'! Nama ulama' semua dah mixed up, apa tak nye ada agaknya 20-30 hukum. Nak hafal ayat-ayat Qur'an & hadith-hadith tak kesampaian, jadi exam tu tulis ajelah sehampir mungkin dengan dall-dalil yang ingat. Tak exact words.

Exam tafsir tu kat Jurong West, dekat dengan NTU/NIE. Lepas kertas 1, Marliyana langsung mulakan Kertas 2, tanpa rehat 1/2 jam seperti lazimnya sebab Marliyana nak cepat. Lepas Kertas 2, Marliyana singgah asrama jap, pastu ikut parents gi jemputan kat Chai Chee. Gitu lah namanya.

Lepas Zohor, Marliyana gi madrasah pat Tampines pulak, untuk Kertas Kepimpinan Dalam Islam. Marliyana rasa Kertas 1 okeh, tapi sebahagian daripada Kertas 2 susah sangat. Marliyana main hentam aje.

At last, mak Marliyana belanja beli 2 pyjamas, sebab pyjamas yang ada dah tinggalkan kat asrama. $6 kat lelong, murah lah tu.

Malam, Marliyana ikut mak dan makcik Marliyana jalan-jalan kat Tampines. Nak katakan shopping, boleh jugak arh. Marliyana beli 2 kasut & 1 seluar tracks. Memang dah lama nak beli kasut, untuk pakaian semi-formal kat sekolah & untuk bila pakai jubah (tak senonoh gitu pakai jubah abistu pakai kasut $6.90 yang mak label sebagai 'kasut nyonya' yang Marliyana biasa pakai tu), jadi bila ada kasut semurah $10.80 & $15.90, Marliyana belilah.

Itu je kejadian hari ni sebenarnya...

Tapi adalah hal-hal lain. Marliyana masih memikirkan tentang apa yang Marliyana 'belajar' Jumaat & Sabtu lalu. Walaupun Marliyana belum dapat menerima semuanya dan memberikan kata akhir, sekurang-kurangnya, Marliyana rasa Marliyana dah mempunyai suatu pendirian yang sesuai buat masa ni, supaya tak terlalu stress fikirkan ni.

Marliyana rasa Marliyana banyak stress kebelakangan ni. Sebab asyik pening-pening kepala macam migraine. Nak jumpa doktor macam tak perlu, tapi takut jugak kalau ada apa-apa tak kena. Semoga dijauhkan sebarang penyakit dan musibah. Amin. Lebih-lebih lagi Marliyana baru-baru ni dengar cerita ada orang sakit-sakit kepala, rupanya darah tinggi sampai satu hari tahap tekanan darahnya terlalu tinggi sehingga urat dalam otak pecah menyebabkan stroke sebelah badan dan kehilangan kebolehan untuk berkata-kata.

Oh, kelmarin bila Marliyana pergi Body Worlds, Science Centre & Imax Theatre dengan Harizah & Mahmudah, case kamera Marliyana hilang. Dah cari & dah laporkan, sekarang Marliyana redha & tawakkal sahaja.

Jadi Marliyana buat bodoh. Serba salah pulak rasanya. Tapi Marliyana benar-benar ada hal Selasa malam ni... Memang boleh skip, tapi... entah. sememangnya Marliyana serba salah.

Besok malam kawan Marliyana nak pergi Laos, bukan untuk Sea Games, tapi untuk buat kebajikan. Marliyana rasa Marliyana nak hantar dia sampai airport. Marliyana suka jalan-jalan kat airport sebenarnya. Marliyana rindu sangat nak naik kapal terbang... tapi...

Parents Marliyana dah benarkan Marliyana bercuti dengan kawan sepanjang dua minggu ke Australia bulan Jun depan. Marliyana pon dah bilang kawan Marliyana tu. Lagipun keluarga Marliyana sedang menghadapi sedikit kesempitan wang jugak, jadi... yelah...

Tapi Marliyana sedih jugaklah. Dah ghairah sungguh...

Marliyana tak selesalah nak langkah naik motor semua depan lelaki...

Marliyana singgah kedai singtel & Starhub tadi.

Kelmarin Marliyana berasa ghairah tentang Persantren Kilat.

Marliyana tak tau kenapa alih-alih Marliyana blog sebegini. Marliyana memang rasa lain semacam gitu, tapi tak apalah. Marliyana dah ngantok. Dah lebih satu jam Marliyana taip. Marliyana nak tido. Marliyana dah penat berfikir. Marliyana nak shut-down buat beberapa jam...

It's a Process

Friday, December 11, 2009

As the sore throat heals, first you get a scratchy voice with itchy throat that brings tears to your eyes, followed by a 'sengau' voice with lots of phlegm down your windpipe all the way up to the tip of your nose. Eew, but it's a process.

I'm halfway through the book 'Cleo'. It is taking much more time than needed for Twilight. I started on Monday evening... The story is emotional, with alot of comparisons to cat life interestingly put across, as well as insightful yet funny excerpts that makes you go "ya arh...", so it befuddles me as to why I'm taking so long to complete the book. I guess because I don't see where the book is going. First the author talks about the death of her son, then how the cat came, what happens when she got a new job bla bla bla... What can I say, it's a true life story... There's bound to be unexpected turns of events that you do not expect at all in the start. I thought the story would end when the cat has settled down in the house, since the title of the book is the name of the cat, but since when does life ends just because one issue is done? You seem to be facing one life issue after another (if not a couple of issues all at the same time), until death takes you away...

Anyway, finally Ust Fathurrahman replied my inquiry to sit for the exam I missed last year due to KRC when I decided to sms him. The paper is this Sunday! 8.30am @ Jurong West, very near NTU! And I haven't start studying at all! 2 papers of Tafsir Al-Qur'an 1, and then I have to travel back to Tampines for 2 papers of my Kepimpinan Dalam Islam module. One step done: to dig out my Tafsir notes (I seriously need better organisation in my room with regards to allllllll my poly, madrasah, Fityan, NI and whatnots papers... I need to catalogue them haha. It was a chore looking for my Cell Biology & Molecular Genetic notes in my box of poly notes as they're under the pile of Yr 2 & 3 notes, owwww.

I am very sensitive to cigarette smell. I hate it! It seems to choke around the neck and make your eyes bulge out. The taste that reaches your tongue is a very weird bitter-hacking-kind-of taste, bluek. At the time when there's still pillows and bolsters (and less eruptions of pimples on the face) I'd press my nose and mouth hard into one of them to keep out the cigarette smell as I use the comp in the living room. How glad I am that I've a laptop now and can confine myself in the room. Now, this is another reason I don't watch tv...

Hmmm.... For less fortunate people who don't have opportunities readily knocking on their door every few months, they go out and look for the opportunities. And so, wherever they are, they'd be thinking, "What's next?" and planning for it. I like to keep my options open. I like to know that there are options. Without options, it feels like I've reached a dead end. But I won't narrow down the options, until the time comes when it is absolutely necessary to do so. In a way, I simply wait for the wave to hit me and bring me where I'm 'meant' to be next, yet I like to keep a lookout for all the waves that are coming towards me, as far as I can see...

Yeah, as I was thinking about this, Fityan STC talked about it. What's next for STC? I'm not too interested since I'm still new to it, yet I like knowing there's somewhere to go next. I would be getting older year after year afterall, I can't be in a youth comm anymore, though I guess it's nice to stay involved in the youth scene. There's so much you can and need to do, still.

More importantly was the question to ponder upon, where do you see yourself in 3 years time? I dunno! Many many things can happen in 3 years. Just within 1 year, this year, I was in poly, doing SIP/MP, afterwhich I graduated, and then faced joblessness for awhile, before I started part-time work at Geylang East library and then like a big huge wave hitting me, I got carried to NIE. That's just the main skeleton, not to mention my days and weeks and months filled with different activities and... 'changes'. Changes in obsession, for one, haha. But I guess this year is like this because it's the crossroad... This 'eventful' year won't be repeating until about 8 years down the road when I finish my bond with NIE, and may not decide to continue. As I said, I like keeping my options open ;)

Ok, better be going. Have got lots to do before Maghrib~! Minutes and studying for exams mainly :P

The last sermon

Sunday, March 08, 2009

Shared to me by Sis Mahirah and I'm sharing it with you:

After praising, and thanking Allah he said:

“O People, lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore listen to what I am saying to you very carefully and TAKE THESE WORDS TO THOSE WHO COULD NOT BE PRESENT HERE TODAY.

O People, just as you regard this month, this day, this city as Sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust.

Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners.

Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you.

Remember that you will indeed meet your Lord, and that He will indeed reckon your deeds.

ALLAH has forbidden you to take usury (interest), therefore all interest obligation shall henceforth be waived. Your capital, however, is yours to keep. You will neither inflict nor suffer any inequity. Allah has Judged that there shall be no interest and that all the interest due to Abbas ibn ‘Abd’al Muttalib (Prophet’s uncle) shall henceforth be waived.

Beware of Satan, for the safety of your religion. He has lost all hope that he will ever be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of following him in small things.

O People, it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women, but they also have rights over you. Remember that you have taken them as your wives only under Allah’s trust and with His permission.

If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with any one of whom you do not approve, as well as never to be unchaste.

O People, listen to me in earnest, worship Allah, say your five daily prayers (Salah), fast during the month of Ramadan, and give your wealth in Zakat. Perform Hajj if you can afford to.

All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action.

Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not, therefore, do injustice to yourselves.

Remember, one day you will appear before Allah and answer your deeds. So beware, do not stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.

O People, no prophet or apostle will come after me and no new faith will be born. Reason well, therefore, O People, and understand words which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the QURAN and my example, the SUNNAH and if you follow these you will never go astray.

All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly. Be my witness, O Allah, that I have conveyed your message to your people.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today is the last lesson with Ust Fathurrahman for this semester. I dunno when will we get him to teach again.

Anyway, an important message he sent to us all today and I feel it is really something we, who call ourselves Muslim who performs our five daily prayers, who fast in the month of Ramadhan, who give zakat, and who have gone/wants to go for hajj, should ponder upon and do our 'homework'.

We pray. Why do we pray? Why do we pray five times a day? Why do we pray the way we pray? Why do we say the words we say when we pray? Why do we pray at certain intervals in the day? Why do we dress the way we do when we pray? Why must we take wudhu' before we pray?

We fast. Why do we fast? Why must we fast in the month of Ramadhan? Why do we fast from fajr to sunset? Why do we abstain from certain things when we fast?

Etc etc.

The answer: The Qur'an and the Sunnah.

But do we really KNOW which surah, which verse? Do we really know which book, which compiler, which hadith?

Etc etc.

For those who know, good for you, and do share!
For those who don't, perhaps it's time we find out.

don't be like the imam and the cat, or the granddaughter and the fish tail. ;)

Kelas

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Saya rasa saya pernah nyatakan betapa saya gemar menghadiri kelas yang dikendalikan oleh Ust Fathurrahman kan? Bila saya dapat tahu Ust mengambil kelas kami buat modul Fiqh Muamalat, rasanya gembira sangat, tak ingin tinggalkan satu kelas pon.

Terdapat banyak lagi sebab mengapa saya gemar menghadiri kelas-kelas Ust.

Akhirnya, terdapat juga faedah saya mengambil Bahasa Melayu Lanjutan -_-

Islam

Sunday, January 04, 2009

“This day I have perfected your religion For you, completed My favor upon you, And have chosen for you Islam as your religion.” part of Surah Al-Maidah: 3.

Islam has been perfected. Islam is perfect. Islam was chosen for you. Islam is my religion...

Allah told me so. :)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm sad to hear about my brothers and sisters in Palestine. I just heard from Ust Kamsani this afternoon in class that 20 babies were found dead. Babies!! My God... Babies. Innocent babies. Were these babies the ones who sends bombs into Israel that killed those 4 Israelis? It's 20 babies! Not 1! Not even 4, the same no. of Israelis killed.

Defence is just an excuse.

Ok, I'm getting emotional. I pray that help will be sent down to the innocent Palestinians. I'm praying that on the day of Asyura, children of Palestine will be freed and that we'll see the beginning of the end to the sufferings in Gaza.

Untukmu Palestin (For you Palestine)

Berdzikirlah dengan nama tuhanmu
Bermunajatlah di tengah malam
Bertaubatlah padanya penuh rasa hamba
Agar doa kita di.. makbulkan
Agar Palestina kita genggam semula
Agar Palestin bebas di tangan kita
Kembali damai disirami air

Kebenaran Al-Quran dan sunnah
Palestin akan dimiliki lagi
Ingatlah Allah dan hindarkan dosa
Palestin kan aman lagi
Dengan ketaatan dan amalan soleh

Palestine you will regain your land
Remember Allah and stay away from sin
Palestine will be at peace again
And filled with the worship of Allah

Dengan kata dan ketaqwaan
Pada Allah yang maha kuasa
Ketakutan dan kelemahan
Peluru dan dentuman
Bukan lagi penghalang
Pembelaan Allah akan datang
Palestin... Palestin... Palestin
Palestin... Palestin... Pa...lestin

Palestin.MP3 - raihan

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just started a new module at Andalus. I'm in 2nd year already la seh!! Unfortunately eventhough a year has passed, I don't think I became a better Muslim. I'm disappointed in myself! InsyaAllah this year will be better, pray for me yea? InsyaAllah I'll share what I learn with others in this blog (soon... insyaAllah) and may whatever I learn be of benefit to me as well as to others. As I learned in Sejarah Pengajian Islam, one of the Islamic scholars (alamak sorry I can't remember, but I think it's Imam Al-Ghazali) commented something like wisdom is not considered a wisdom until it is shared with others and be of benefit to the community. Do correct me if I'm wrong anyone!

So anyway, the new module is Tasawwur Islam 3 (fyi I haven't taken 1 and 2, but that's how the diploma system is in Andalus so don't ask me lar) and once again we talked about Islamic Law. So far, this is like my 3rd, or rather 4th, module involving Islamic law - Sejarah Perundangan Islam by Ust Fathurrahman, Maqasid syariah by Ust Fuad and Faraidh (part of Islamic Law also lar in my opinion) by Ust Fathurrahman, and I'm loving learning about Islamic Law. It makes Islam even more beautiful... I dunno why Malaysia as an Islamic state (ok, correct me if I'm wrong) faces so many oppositions. Either the Muslim leaders going for Islamic Law did not explain properly what is Islamic Law and what is comprises and what is it's beauty OR... that everything is just so political... Singapore is not an Islamic state. But I can actually see Sg implementing some Islamic Law here. It's not that much different than civil law (we'll be discussing this topic next week insyaAllah).

Ust Kamsani teaching Tasawwur Islam is fun to have. He told jokes, his tone is not monotonous, he's not boring, his explanations are ok etc... Yet, he still delivers everything he's supposed to (some teachers are fun to have but do not really impart the knowledge they're supposed to). Good good, all the more I'd like learning Islamic Law hehehe.

Of Importance, Choices & Priority Part II

Thursday, November 13, 2008

Random: The songs that really capture me today (and yesterday night) are Syukur and Bismillah by Raihan on NI blog hehe.

Ok, I shall start with the uestions Ustaz posted while introducing Maqasid Syariah. (Adibah, it's Syar'iyyah actually ehk?)

English: In life, how do you determine whether something is importance to you or less important?

2) Jika perlu buat pilihan antara dua perkara bagaimana anda buat penilaian untuk menentukan pilihan anda?
English; If you have to decide between two matters, how do you analyse to determine your choice?

3) Bagaimana anda menyusun/mengatur urusan keutamaan dalam tugas/tanggungjawab?
English: How do you priotise your tasks/responsibilities?

Side question: Importance of islamic studies and what will happen if it is cast aside?

Take a time to reflect upon the questions... Everyone have their own answers.

I realise that answers flashing through my mind are textbook answers, what I SHOULD do, instead of practical answers, what I WOULD have done or HAS ALWAYS done.

Anyway, happy birthday Amalina! Wherever you are... I miss you y'know...

Of Importance, Choices & Priority

Sunday, November 09, 2008

You can say it's a continuation of this morning's post... But no, it's not really so... These were what we talked about in Maqasid syariah (Reason behind a Law of Islam) module, apart from a few other things. The first lesson of this module today inspired me to do 2 things. One is to blog about it hehe.

Finally, something non-sejarah (history)! I mean, the Ustaz still brings us back to sirah (prophets' histories) and sejarah at parts, but that's perfectly fine with me. I can see the relevance. To study sejarah the whole lesson is just plain boring. Especially when the lecturer fails to state its relevance. It just makes me feel like pulling out my hair. K, that's an exaggeration. Especially so since I have a hijab covering my hair lol.

So anyway, the Ustaz for Maqasid Syariah is... ok. I like how he started with a tazkirah about death. Ok, that sounds crude. But if you were there listening to the tazkirah you'd understand why I like it. And this Ustaz is up to date with current issues, local and global. But... I dunno why he likes to repeat all over again what our fellow classmate just said. We're not deaf lah Ustaz. We're not dumb either. Repetitions are only for emphasizing on something important. And I dunno why he sounds rather nervous as he keeps forgeting words and takes a long time. I hate to waste my time.

I hate wasting time so much so that when he asked questions I actually put p my hand to answer quite a number of times, which I don't normally do. Volunteering to talk in class in just makes my face feel so hot as I feel all eyes and attention on me. Normally after I answer a question or something, I'd look down on the floor and slowly slump down my seat as if trying to disappear. As much as I wanna be like Hermione, I just can't. But for his class I just had to answer. Other than bro Amir and Sis Jun, no one else seems to have a voice and it really unnerves me to see the teacher just standing infront repeating the question again followed by silence and he just continue standing waiting for an answer. Gosh. But he learned after sometime that he is SUPPOSED TO pick one of us to answer instead of asking for volunteers. The latter only means you'd hear bro Amir or sis Jun's voice. And maybe once in awhile Sis Faseha or Cik Salleh or Sis Rohana or 1 or 2 others speaking up.

Guess what time we ended? 5.20. Instead of 5. And he hardly covered half the notes!

So anyway, what of importance, choices and priority? wait for my next post. I've got a cramped neck right now. Hehe. so watch out for part II of this post!

Diploma Pengajian ISLAM

Monday, October 27, 2008

I'm kinda disappointed actually. I was expecting to learn more about Qur'an and hadith stuff y'know. Like Mustholah Hadith, Tafsir Al-Qur'an, Faraidh were fine. But asas kaunseling dan psikologi, sejarah tamadun Islam, sejarah perundangan Islam, sejarah pengajian Islam all just sounds interesting but bores me soooo much I become a very bad student... I think in these classes I look like a student that was forced by parents to attend madrasah classes, which is NOT the case. Each time my parents mention about quitting, I feel so tempted to. My mum's reason is that for what if I learn and I don't apply. To her my attitude masih cam setan. My dad's reason is that I always go to class late, might as well don't go at all. Haiz...

Dah lama gitu tak sigh. I don't like it.

I miss usrah (sharings)! I miss KPR! I miss tazkirahs (reminders)! I miss reflections! SIP is taking a lot of my time, leaving me little to indulge in food for the soul...

My plans after 23rd Jan and all those submissions and poster presentatios etc in early Feb... Take driving lessons (from Feb-Sep I have around 7 months before my FTT expires), attend Arab class, attend Mandarin class, attend workshops/camps/clases/gatherings/sessions about Islam... K yesh...

I think kan.. I am addicted to internet...

OH NOOOOOO!!!!

Anyway, just got home from bro Hafiz H's nikah and sanding. Best best!! Alhamdulillah dah selamat dah... Haha he only had to recite the penerimaan nikah once. Power2 :D Before the nikah itself, the Ustaz was like giving reminders to bro Hafiz. Aku yang dengar je rasa waduhhh banyak betol tanggungjawab, pengantin sendiri apa rasa agaknya eh?

Met alot of people I know at the majlis. The Perdaus people - Madrasah, Saff, RR'07, Climb IGM... And NI too of course :D Met new people too! Two sisters from TP (previous batches though) as well as my cousin's cousin (whom I so tak kenal, I have no idea how she recognise me).

Me, Liyana and K.Maryam!

Sis Rufi on furthest right of pic.

And that's Sis Aishah, the sister who took Marketing at TP years back, she's one of the founders at the previous TPMS tau, with her anak sedare who is sooo cute and friendly.

Kk.. To bro Hafiz & sis Haryani (the groom and bride), semoga berkekalan sepanjang hayat dan diberkati perjuangan bro n sis berdua senantiasa... Selamat Pengantin Baru!! Tahniah tahniah :D

Hmm... wonder who's next? YOU maybe?

Masjid Al-amin...

Semangat patriotic!

090808... apalagi kan on 9th Aug kalau tak lain tak bukan hari jadi Sg! Happy birthday Singapore!!! Dah pon 43... Alhamdulillah... And going strong eh! Wishing all the best to Singapore with continued peace and harmony :D

Ni nak cakap sikit... Semalam on the way home in MRT ada nampak this chinese-looking pakcik. Bukannya apa... It just occured to me: Kalau pakcik ni tak pakai songkok, I wouldn't know he's a Muslim. And that goes for people around us too! Without the songkok/tudung, people won't know you're a Muslim or not. I don't mean that everyone who wears songkok or tudung is a PRACTISING Muslim or not, tu bukan aku punya pasal, tu antara dia ngan Tuhan ah. But it's like I see someone wearing songkok/tudung, I know I share something in common with this person: we share the same religion, faith, belief. He/she is my brother/sister in Islam :D Kan kan kan? Reminds me of an iftar session I attended last year at Perdaus. They talked about Muslim identity... There was a question posted: How do we identify that a policeman is a policeman? Or a postman is a postman? Or a nurse is a nurse? How about a Muslim?

ON ANOTHER NOTE... Is a policeman not a policeman when not in his uniform? Postman? Nurse? How about teachers and students? How do you know who is what? As a Muslim, your attitude and your amalan should show that you're a Muslim too. Not just by your clothes. Because...

Islam is a way of life. Show that you're a Muslim in everything you do. The way you dress. The way you speak. The way you greet. Etc etc...

That's all from me for today. InsyaAllah will be back at the same channel, different day and time.

Haha, NI should start a radio station eh k.Maryam? Mus?

Assalamu alaikum Wr Wb

Sdri Marliyana

Syukran.

I wanna cry!!!!! Cos my Tafsir exam falls on 15th Jun (when I'm supposed to be in Redang) and Faraidh is on 22nd Jun (when I just finished DTalk)

I'm like being asked to choose either, how can I do that??

"Ku berserah, ku berpasrah hanya padaMu ya Rabbi"

I'm listening MP3 and that was lyrics that was played as I am typing this. It truly descibes how I feel. Oh my...

Ya Allah, aku berserah padaMu. Kau yang Maha Mengetahui.

I seriously have no idea what to do! On 22nd, oklah, I can cabut straight after DTalk. No problem. On 15th?? Gakkan kott nak balik dari Redang, take the exam then go back right?? I can't just cancel KRC, the long-awaited KRC... I paid $190 oredi tauu.. Then gakkan pulak nak skip the exam je and repeat the whole module in Dec 2009??? When my parents have paid like $75 per month for??

I'm wishing for a miracle. And I'm incapable of miracles. Ya Allah, aku memohon kepadaMu, Tuhan semesta alam...

“Man jadda wajad!”

Siapa bersungguh-sungguh, dia mendapat!!!
-from novel ayat-ayat cinta by Habbiburrahman Shirozy

Wa man yattaqillaha yaj’al lahu makhraja.
-from same novel

I'm stuck reading the novel (uh oh). It's so page-turning lah! Within 3 days I read almost half the book akready (yea yea others would have finished it earlier, but I've kinda lost touch with the 'skills' of reading novels).

I'm so in love with the Arab language! How I wish I can read the Qur'an and understand the meaning, without needing translations...

Nak belajar Arab... :( Ust Sakinah, Liyana, Kak Syazwani, Diyana tolong ajar boleh? Setakat biasa-biasakan cakap Arab ngan kita bila jumpa pon ok, takyah nak sit down together and belajar from book...

A couple of times I see Arab classes in the newspaper or hear it from friends, and I soooo wanna join. Unfortunately, I dunno eh, macam tak dapat commit larh...

I wanna be like Fahri.. Put up his whole life planning in his room... Me? I don't even know what tests/assignments I have due next week if Ad doesn't tell me!

Gosh, there's so much I wanna better myself in. Camne eh? Where to start?

I kinda feel that these days I'm do things because I'm asked to, and not because I want to. It's different if you do things with passion, with keredhaan..

Sometimes pulak, I really wanna do something but I keep procrastinating it, "Nanti lar, nanti lar..."

Rasa macam nak push pause button to everything, reorganise and then play again. Or rather, i should say 'record'. Caus everything we do is somewhat 'recorded' and will be 'replayed' to us in the hereafter...

I really enjoy Ust Fathurrahman's Faraid class. Not only is he funny, his explanation is also very clear with support from al-Qur'an and hadiths (sometimes). And he actually summarised most part of Faraidh in a single paper that really helps us in our revision. Hehe, spoonfed ehk. Really, I compare his lesson with Ust Saifuddin's (sry Ust...) lesson, I feel that I learnn so much more in Ust;s Fathurrahman's class. Simple and easy to understand with loads of examples and practices that you have the numbers at the tip of your fingers!

I'm loving DPIA... I really value the lessons taught. (Though I must say I really dread the tugasan and exam... Menyetresskan gilerr okeh!)

Oh oh, by the way, helped Fityan's kendarat last night. First time beb aku jadi kendarat and Liyana of all other jobs you can give me, you pot me responsible for serving the pengantin!!! Initially ok, since I didn't foresee pape ah. Just that Liyana says it's a critical job. Ok... Then Ust arrived and told me, "Awak jangan pulak tertumpah lauk kat pengatin!" Argh, panic! Wild imagination!! What if this... What if that...

When the pengantin arrived, lagi lah panic aku! I expected someone to give me instructions what to do and when no one did, there's only 1 person I can ask, that is someone who's married, none other than: Ust. Kwang3!

In the end, Zul carried the food in the dulang while I followed him from behind and transferred the food on the table. I must add: supppppppppeeeeeeeerrrrrrr slooooooowly ok. Calm je, padahal dup dub dup dub, keringat membasahi serkup sume. Then straightaway I blah.

Then I kept looking at the pengantin. Why are they not eating yet nih??!! Tried to think back and realised I did not put the fork and spoon. Panicked, ran to the back, asked Ust, panicked, ran to the front and realised fork and spoon nye dah ade lah...

After that I went back to where I'm supposed to be: the desert table and carried on my job. Saw the pengantin jalan-jalan and back to the dining table for pictures. And I realised, I haven't cleared the table!!! Dush. Quickly grabbed a dulang, asked Kak Ain to follow me and when one group left from the phototaking sessin, Kak Ain and I went to clear the table.

Oh know what? Now then I realise I did not put any drinks for the pengantin. OoOoOopps. Nasib tak tercekik ke terbegik ke!

Reminder to all: you either put someone experienced or someone who's married to be responsible of serving the pengantin. I AM NEITHER. Gosh, *smacks forehead* paiseh tauu.. It was the one day they become raja and permaisuri and they didn't even get any drinks?? Cekik darah nye Marliyana. Lol.
