Just when I wanted to start a new roll on tumblr to mark the new hijrah year and a new project to promote Islam and Islamic values, tumblr seems to have crashed so back to all-time-favourite blogger.

Just wanted to say that I passed by Watsons just now and Maher Zain's song was playing. The cashier was a Muslim lady.

I went to Ahmad's play at Mountbatten CC last Saturday. He wrote the play while promoting a typical Muslim makcik (though not all makcik has a smart talented daughter that ran away larh eh) and the way he wrote it secara tak langsung he's educating his viewers about Islam, the five daily prayers Muslims perform, the fasting month of Ramadhan, the tudung to cover the hair which is aurat, the greeting of salam etc.

On facebook today a new movement has started to change display pictures to portray Islamic values.

Salam Maal Hijrah, may the truth prevail for many many centuries to come :) It has prevailed 1432 years (and more) and it is our duty as Muslims of this day to ensure that it continues to prevail.

I was actually looking for the hadith qudsi about and I came across this...



MasyaAllah... Don't we all want to be closer to Allah? Allah loves you so much that's why He delays answering your doa. There is no doa of a mukmin that Allah doesn't respond to, if not now, then He will in the hereafter...

And my favourite zikr is hasbi rabbi, it's so nice that it's almost miraculous... Especially so, since each time I hear it, it reminds me of Maghrib prayers @ Ghufran because the bilal would sing it before Maghrib prayers, and of pesantren because of a story Ustaz Hassan told us, about how he wanted to perform hajj and he went to see his syeikh to consult him on how he can go when he has no money, of which his syeikh's answer was: "You already have the key with you" and the key is Allah... Doa. Then Ust sang hasbi rabbi and a miracle happened, not instantaneously but yeah... Allah answered his doa. It is not that the song was the cause that Allah answered his doa, but it just reminds me how Allah will always answer His servant's doa.

And my favourite surah is Surah Ar-Rahman (other than Al-Fatihah), for just the name itself reminds me of Allah the Most Gracious, Maha Pengasih! My roommate & I would play this surah on our laptop at random times, for different reasons. And the surah reminds me of RYC 08, as well as Ramadhan qiyam 09.

Truly, no one is more Gracious, lebih mengasihi, than Allah s.w.t. And thus only He deserves our utmost kasih.

Which brings me back to the hadith qudsi I was looking for. I've heard of the longer version for it, but I can't find it. I want to Maghrib first.

For now, this would suffice:

I am as My servant thinks I am. I am with him when he makes mention of Me. If he makes mention of Me to himself, I make mention of him to Myself; and if he makes mention of Me in an assembly, I make mention of him in an assembly even better than that one. And if he takes one step towards me, I take ten steps towards him. And if he comes walking to Me, I go running towards him.

I didn't know I would love sparring so much. The mental and physical coordination is interesting. NTU had uni friendlies with SMU this afternoon at SMU and I had the opportunity to spar with an SMU sister. Eventhough I lost 2 rounds and we drew in the 3rd, it makes me all the more motivated to learn more in silat. Need to work on my combos, on my shuffling, on range, speed, intensity and accuracy. I'm excited for silat trainings to come!

Oh the SMU sister happened to be from TP Engineering hehe. No wonder she looked familiar. Entered the gelanggang, saw her the first time, and throughout the whole match I was sifting through my memory on where had I first met her haha. She said afterwards probably I know her sister instead. Probably ah. I can't be too sure... I don't remember having any friends by the name of Rahmah in TP...

Oh, right now I have a sprained left ankle and because I forced to balance myself on my right leg more on the way home just now, even my right leg hurts, so I'm walking like a robot currently. Yet I am determined not to let my parents see what the match had done to me. I don't wanna quit silat!! (never thought I'd say that heh) Luckily I have a stock of diclofenac sodium painkillers, so popped two cookies in my mouth followed by 2 pills of the painkillers and 1 pill for gastric.

I don't eat painkillers if I can help it. No panadols for me. Headaches are part and parcel of life, and it doesn't need panadol, it needs plenty of water and rest in your system that's it. I only take painkillers, and that's the diclofenac ones only if I really really really can't take the pain. This sprained ankle is not the worst in my medical history actually. I've had inflammation of the tendons before and that is like 10x worst as it causes your tendon to redden and swell and each time your blood pulses through the veins, ow ow ow. That's why I thought I can withstand the pain of this sprained ankle. Actually I can. I just eat the painkiller in the hope that I can walk properly tmr and pretend nothing happened infront of my parents hehe.

If I were to go to the polyclinic and Dr Sophian Hadi were to see me again, he'd probably comment: "another injury to add to your history?" haha.

I sure hope the sprain heals soon. I don't need another inflammed leg... Especially when I have a camp this wed-fri! Silat bonding camp! I heard it's really gonna mix us together, hmm... They feel that the segregation between the girls and the guys is not good for the team, hmm... I will hold up to my principles. In case they plan something not so 'I-dont-know-any-suitable-adjective', I'd try to get away from doing it larh... Preferably if I can get away, I would. We'll see how things go... Hopefully things go on fine, nak mix tu mix jugak, for the team, yet batasan tetap batasan :) ni tetap majority melayu Islam, so tetap perlu jaga batasan-batasan yang ditetapkan Islam... I decided to leave drama partly because of this, and also because I really didn't have time to attend trainings larh. But yeah, I hope this issue doesn't become a penghalang for me to be a true pesilat NTU!!! Chewah hehe ;)

If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with any one of whom you do not approve, as well as never to be unchaste.

O People, listen to me in earnest, worship Allah, say your five daily prayers (Salah), fast during the month of Ramadan, and give your wealth in Zakat. Perform Hajj if you can afford to.

All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action.

Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not, therefore, do injustice to yourselves.

Remember, one day you will appear before Allah and answer your deeds. So beware, do not stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.

O People, no prophet or apostle will come after me and no new faith will be born. Reason well, therefore, O People, and understand words which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the QURAN and my example, the SUNNAH and if you follow these you will never go astray.

All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly. Be my witness, O Allah, that I have conveyed your message to your people.”

Today is the last lesson with Ust Fathurrahman for this semester. I dunno when will we get him to teach again.

Anyway, an important message he sent to us all today and I feel it is really something we, who call ourselves Muslim who performs our five daily prayers, who fast in the month of Ramadhan, who give zakat, and who have gone/wants to go for hajj, should ponder upon and do our 'homework'.

We pray. Why do we pray? Why do we pray five times a day? Why do we pray the way we pray? Why do we say the words we say when we pray? Why do we pray at certain intervals in the day? Why do we dress the way we do when we pray? Why must we take wudhu' before we pray?

We fast. Why do we fast? Why must we fast in the month of Ramadhan? Why do we fast from fajr to sunset? Why do we abstain from certain things when we fast?

Etc etc.

The answer: The Qur'an and the Sunnah.

But do we really KNOW which surah, which verse? Do we really know which book, which compiler, which hadith?

Etc etc.

For those who know, good for you, and do share!
For those who don't, perhaps it's time we find out.

I'm sad to hear about my brothers and sisters in Palestine. I just heard from Ust Kamsani this afternoon in class that 20 babies were found dead. Babies!! My God... Babies. Innocent babies. Were these babies the ones who sends bombs into Israel that killed those 4 Israelis? It's 20 babies! Not 1! Not even 4, the same no. of Israelis killed.

Defence is just an excuse.

Ok, I'm getting emotional. I pray that help will be sent down to the innocent Palestinians. I'm praying that on the day of Asyura, children of Palestine will be freed and that we'll see the beginning of the end to the sufferings in Gaza.

I just started a new module at Andalus. I'm in 2nd year already la seh!! Unfortunately eventhough a year has passed, I don't think I became a better Muslim. I'm disappointed in myself! InsyaAllah this year will be better, pray for me yea? InsyaAllah I'll share what I learn with others in this blog (soon... insyaAllah) and may whatever I learn be of benefit to me as well as to others. As I learned in Sejarah Pengajian Islam, one of the Islamic scholars (alamak sorry I can't remember, but I think it's Imam Al-Ghazali) commented something like wisdom is not considered a wisdom until it is shared with others and be of benefit to the community. Do correct me if I'm wrong anyone!

So anyway, the new module is Tasawwur Islam 3 (fyi I haven't taken 1 and 2, but that's how the diploma system is in Andalus so don't ask me lar) and once again we talked about Islamic Law. So far, this is like my 3rd, or rather 4th, module involving Islamic law - Sejarah Perundangan Islam by Ust Fathurrahman, Maqasid syariah by Ust Fuad and Faraidh (part of Islamic Law also lar in my opinion) by Ust Fathurrahman, and I'm loving learning about Islamic Law. It makes Islam even more beautiful... I dunno why Malaysia as an Islamic state (ok, correct me if I'm wrong) faces so many oppositions. Either the Muslim leaders going for Islamic Law did not explain properly what is Islamic Law and what is comprises and what is it's beauty OR... that everything is just so political... Singapore is not an Islamic state. But I can actually see Sg implementing some Islamic Law here. It's not that much different than civil law (we'll be discussing this topic next week insyaAllah).

Ust Kamsani teaching Tasawwur Islam is fun to have. He told jokes, his tone is not monotonous, he's not boring, his explanations are ok etc... Yet, he still delivers everything he's supposed to (some teachers are fun to have but do not really impart the knowledge they're supposed to). Good good, all the more I'd like learning Islamic Law hehehe.

Yar... I do not trust anything if there's no dalil. So I did not trust anything I read from kedaisiber where NI linked regarding Puasa Asyura. Instead I googled on 'hadith hari asyura' as I have heard before of hadiths regarding this pecial day which falls on 10 Muharram, which this year 1430H falls on Wednesday, 7 Jan 2009M.

Anyway the following is taken from a blog which was indeed taken from muslimspace. I hope it is of benefit for you.

I urge Muslims reading this to fast on the Day of Asyura and apart from praying for your sins of the past year be forgiven, do pray too for our dear Muslim brothers and sisters in Palestine. Once before, Allah saved the Children of Israel from their enemy (in Egypt ) and so Prophet Musa fasted on this day giving thanks to Allah. May this time Allah saves the Children of Israel from Palestine as well as the Children of Palestine from Israel. I do not wish to point fingers on who's right and who's wrong. I'm not the one going through experiencing the 'war' either as an Israeli or as a Palestinian, so I feel that I have no hak, or right in judging who's right and who's wrong. Allah is best of judge and the most just, may He save all innocent lives and send hidayah to those who do wrong, may they stop hurting and killing others, innocent or not.

From muslimspace:

First of all, it is very important to make it clear that fasting on the day of `Ashura' – the 10th of Muharram- is of great merits in Islam. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Fasting the day of `Ashura' (is of great merits), I hope that Allah will accept it as an expiation for (the sins committed in) the previous year" (Muslim).



Later, before the end of his life, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told Muslims to add the 9th day also. Thus, it is recommended to fast on both the 9th and 10th of Muharram.

Moreover, in his well-known book, Fiqh As-Sunnah, the late Sheikh Sayyed Sabiq states:



Abu Hurayrah reported: "I asked the Prophet: 'Which Prayer is the best after the obligatory Prayers?' He said: 'Prayer during the mid of the night.' I asked: 'Which fasting is the best after that of Ramadan?' He said, 'The month of Allah that you call Muharram'" (Ahmad, Muslim, and Abu Dawud).

Fasting the Day of `Ashura' is not to mourn the martyrdom of imam Husain (may Allah be pleased with him). We deeply respect Imam Husain's martyrdom, we honor his glorious act of sacrifice for the sake of Islam. He gave us a great example of truth, courage and piety. But we also feel pain and grief in our hearts for his assassination at the hand of some hypocrites who took Islam as a pretext to commit their crime. They fought and killed Allah's Messenger's beloved and blessed grandson and his family. This was the most heinous and shameful crime that was committed for the sake of political power. This tragic event took place in the year 61 AH or 680 CE. However, the tradition of `Ashura' fasting is very ancient and it goes back to a long time before imam Husian.



It is reported in the Sahih of Imam Al-Bukhari and other authentic collections of hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions used to fast on the 10th day of Muharram while they were in Makkah (before the hijrah).



It was a day on which people of Makkah used to change the covering (kiswah) of the Ka`bah. Quraysh also used to fast on this day. (Al-Bukhari, hadith 1489 and 1760)



After the hijrah when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Madinah, he found that the Jews of Madinah also used to observe this day with fasting. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked them the reason of their fasting on this day. They said, "This is a blessed day. On this day Allah saved the Children of Israel from their enemy (in Egypt ) and so Prophet Musa fasted on this day giving thanks to Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "We have more claim to Musa than you." He fasted on that day and commanded Muslims to fast on this day. (Al-Bukhari, hadith 1865)



In another report it is mentioned that Jews of Madinah used to hold a feast on this day. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told his Companions to fast instead. (Al-Bukhari, hadith 1866)



`Ashura' fasting was obligatory (fard) in the beginning. In the second year of hijrah (624 CE) when Allah's command came that Muslims should fast the whole month of Ramadan, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) then sent someone to announce to people that fasting of `Ashura' had become voluntary (nafl). This indicates that whosoever wishes to fast, may fast and whosoever does not want to fast, there will be no blame on him/her.



Imam at-Tirmidhi mentioned that ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to say that we should fast on two days: the 9th and 10th of Muharram to distinguish ourselves from the Jewish community. (At-Tirmidhi, Hadith 686)





Mu`awiyyah ibn Abi Sufyan reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah say: "Concerning the day of `Ashura', it is not obligatory upon you to fast on it as I do. Whoever wishes may fast and whoever does not wish to is not obliged to do so" (Al-Bukhari and Muslim).



It is noteworthy that Muslim scholars have stated that fasting of `Ashura' is of three levels as follows:



1. fasting for three days, i.e., on the 9th, 10th, and 11th of Muharram,



2. fasting the 9th and 10th of Muharram, and



3. fasting only the 10th of Muharram

It's cool to read their blogs. Some are reverts. Some are already wives with children. I haven't read a lot, but 3 blogs attracted my attention (away from my MP report which I'm supposed to be doing, I must say lol).

One of her recent posts tells us how she handles Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations since she can't stop her family from celebrating them right.... Two: Organica
She's an Egyptian Muslim studying in America I think. I like her posts about fashion! She puts together dresses and pants and long sleeved shirts with hijab and even matching bags and shoes. Though I probably won't dress that way since I'm always so lazy to put so many pieces together and I believe those tight long sleeved inside shirts do not cover the aurat as they show the shape of your arms but it's still refreshing to see people put pieces of clothes together to attempt to cover the aurat. She also posts pictures as you shall see in her recent posts and daily musings such as one titled 'Islam is Perfect, My Religion'.

Three: The Egyptian's Wife
Yup as her blog title reads, she's a wife to an Eqyptian man with four children. I think she was a Muslim even before marriage. It's interesting reading how she brings up her children bringing them to join in Eid prayers eventhough she herself is excused from prayers, getting them to pick up litters after the jemaah have left and asking them to time how long they take to finish their homework and rewarding them when they finish their reading assignments etc. Oh, and one of her posts remind me of the short sketch yesterday at Ghufran's Tathmin Al-Mibarrat hehe. "I Begged Them to Kill Me." This book is an important and moving document of suffering we thought we had heard and known all about. The anonymous women speak of the unspeakable--of rape, torture, enslavement, forced pregnancy, the selling of women as slaves. Forced pregnancies so that they may bear a Serb child and contaminate the Muslim lineage! The stories are heart wrenching and just painful to read, but I think they are important for us to remember! I wanted to share some of the stories which were investigated by the "Women's International League for Peace and Freedom" which you can also find here.

"January 23, 1993 – (Hamilton Spectator) During a night of unimaginable horror when she was raped by at least 15 Serb soldiers, Amela, a 25-year-old Bosnian, had no doubt why she'd been singled out for such bestiality."Because I am a Muslim," the married, red-haired woman says simply. "Their aim was to humiliate me, to make me lose my honor, to prove that they're the masters and they can rape and kill you just as they please. We are like their slaves."Now she feels her life, quite literally, is ruined. It is only the thought of her two-year-old son that stops Amela from killing herself."I try to be brave, but without even thinking about it, I just feel a physical urge to throw myself in front of a car or a train."

Selecting their victims by the light of matches, the Serb irregulars led Amela off with a knife to her throat. She thinks the men were under orders to rape because, when she begged to be let go, her Serb tormentor replied: "I can't. I have to."She was raped twice, let go briefly, then led back into a pitch-black room where she was brutally raped for hours on a cement floor.She estimates at least 20 other women were gang-raped during the night, including a 15-year-old and a woman already nine months pregnant.The next day the entire group of 60 was dumped in a forest. They made their way to Travnik, in Muslim and Croat hands. From there Amela went to Zagreb, the Croatian capital, where she was reunited with the female members of her family and now lives on charity.Although she escaped pregnancy or sexually-transmitted diseases, her Gynecologist says she suffered permanent internal damage. Her period also stopped last August, due to shock, her doctor says."I try to forget about it, but it's impossible to forget," says Amela, breaking into tears for the first time in an hour and a half of reciting her story in a clear, strong voice."I was raised in a religious Muslim family. Now I have lost my honor."Deeply depressed, she says "sometimes I cry during the night. I can't sleep. I have nightmares." She longs to be reunited with her husband and return totheir three-storey house, as long as there are no Serbs in the neighborhood."

There were thousands of such women, who were helpless and were forced to bear 'their' children. In fact, my mother had been asked to adopt some - but refused for obvious reasons. Imagine, although it is quite un-imaginable, how it feels to be forced to carry a child, give birth to it, and remain scard for the rest of your life. Imagine what this does to a mother?!? I can't…I cannot possible begin to imagine what it must have been like and I thank Allah each and every day that I have not been one of those women and girls. We have to remind ourselves, how fortunate we are!

They raped girls of only 6 years of age, pregnant women and elder women - it did not make a difference to these bastards! The unimaginable stories that resulted from them just horrify me! An elder lady was telling her experience, and she saw a pregnant woman being taken away and raped, after they were done they opened her up and took out her twins. They killed the babies in front of the mother and then slit her throat as well.

Aku berkata : ya Allah, aku kesiangan lagi, udah pukul berapa nih, pukul 5 lewat 30, Astaghfirullah, Shubuh telat lagi………duh……….diri…

Syaitan berkata : hahahaha, biasa lah, sekali-kali

Aku berkata : awas loe ya, ntar ku jitak kepal loe, gara-gara loe gue telat shubuh


Aku masih duduk di sajadah dalam penyesalan, kenapa sholat shubuh ku terlambat


Syaitan berkata : hallo kawan, lagi ngapain neh ?? kok kayak orang nyesel gitu ?

Aku berkata : siapa kawan loe, emangnya loe siapa ? gue bukan teman loe, loe aja nyang ngaku-ngaku teman gue

Syaitan berkata : kamu kan udah nurutin kata gue, berarti loe kawan gue….hehe

Aku berkata : pergi sana, aku ingin berzikir dan berdoa

Syaitan berkata : lha, jangan sewot gitu dong, hari kan udah siang, mana siap-siap pergi kerja lagi, nggak usah aja deh zikir dan doanya, kan zikir dijalan juga bisa ato dimana aja kan bisa juga tuh zikir ama doanya….hehe

Aku berkata : dasar penggoda kau, udah pergi sana !

Syaitan berkata : lha, wong cuman ngasih tau aja, kok malah marah ?


Pagi ini ku berangkat pergi kerja dengan bermuram durja.

Aku berkata : emang iya !!, gue kehilangan sholat tahajud tadi malam, lalu ketinggalan sholat shubuh di masjid, malah telat sholat shubuh, di rumah lagi, siapa yang nggak sedih

Syaitan berkata : ya udah, sekarang yang penting hilangkan sewot mu itu. Oh ya, ada cewek cantik tuh, ngitung-ngitung ngilangin suntuk loe, liat cantik nian euy !

Aku berkata : dasar syaitan loe, goda orang trus, liat wanita cantik apalagi sampe nafsu gitu, kan dosa tau !

Aku tetap mengendarai kendaraanku dengan tenang tak bergeming, tapi syaitan masih menemani perjalananku, hingga aku bertanya ;


Aku berkata : ngomong-ngomong kamoe ini pintar ya goda orang.

Syaitan berkata : iya dong, kan itu memang profesi gue sejak di usir dari Surga dulu.

Aku berkata : goda pengusaha ?

Syaitan berkata : dengan kekayaannya, dia bisa berbuat apapun, semuanya bisa dia miliki, mobil mengkilat, rumah bertingkat, cewek-cewek cakep.

Aku berkata : goda rakyat jelata ?

Syaitan berkata : dengan kemiskinannya, ia bisa menjadi engkar kepada Allah, dia akan jadi orang pengumpat, pengomel, pemalas dan mengeluhi nasib lalu bisa berakhir bunuh diri.

Aku berkata : goda orang-orang kebanyakan, orang awam gitu ?

Syaitan berkata : dengan kebodohannya (tidak mengerti dengan agama), aku akan adu domba mereka, dan mereka akan saling meng-ghibah (gosip), menyebarkan keburukan antara mereka, dan memicu permusuhan antar mereka.

Aku berkata : lantas orang yang paling kamu benci itu siapa ?

Syaitan berkata : orang yang suka ke masjid, orang yang sholeh, semua orang yang ahli ibadah, orang yang senantiasa taat kepada Allah, para da’I penyeru kepada Allah dan para pejuang dijalan Allah.

Aku berkata : lalu kamu takut sama apa ?

Syaitan berkata : aku takut dengan Ayat kursi, dan seluruh isi Qur’an dan aku paling takut juga jika orang membaca nama-nama Allah.

Aku berkata : kalau begitu, aku berlindung kepada Allah dari gangguan dan godaan dirimu yang terkutuk.


Lalu aku baca Qur’an apa saja yang aku hafal, kemudian syaitan pergi dan menghilang dari hadapanku, karena dirinya kepanasan.

Anyway, just got home from bro Hafiz H's nikah and sanding. Best best!! Alhamdulillah dah selamat dah... Haha he only had to recite the penerimaan nikah once. Power2 :D Before the nikah itself, the Ustaz was like giving reminders to bro Hafiz. Aku yang dengar je rasa waduhhh banyak betol tanggungjawab, pengantin sendiri apa rasa agaknya eh?

Ni nak cakap sikit... Semalam on the way home in MRT ada nampak this chinese-looking pakcik. Bukannya apa... It just occured to me: Kalau pakcik ni tak pakai songkok, I wouldn't know he's a Muslim. And that goes for people around us too! Without the songkok/tudung, people won't know you're a Muslim or not. I don't mean that everyone who wears songkok or tudung is a PRACTISING Muslim or not, tu bukan aku punya pasal, tu antara dia ngan Tuhan ah. But it's like I see someone wearing songkok/tudung, I know I share something in common with this person: we share the same religion, faith, belief. He/she is my brother/sister in Islam :D Kan kan kan? Reminds me of an iftar session I attended last year at Perdaus. They talked about Muslim identity... There was a question posted: How do we identify that a policeman is a policeman? Or a postman is a postman? Or a nurse is a nurse? How about a Muslim?

ON ANOTHER NOTE... Is a policeman not a policeman when not in his uniform? Postman? Nurse? How about teachers and students? How do you know who is what? As a Muslim, your attitude and your amalan should show that you're a Muslim too. Not just by your clothes. Because...



Islam is a way of life. Show that you're a Muslim in everything you do. The way you dress. The way you speak. The way you greet. Etc etc...

45oth post whee~

Hmm, swimming (snorkeling kott) under a pile of schoolwork to do. I'm glad I'm not tied down by any other urgent responsibilities currently that requires immediate attention, though my tasklist seems to get longer each day! It's k... One at a time I guess...

Feeling quite motivated actually. Something Ustazah Sakinah or one of the other sisters said yesterday made me sort of decide where I wanna go next. Or at least narrow down my choices... She said somethig, which I can simply conclude as: We Muslims wouldn't want to be at a disadvantage because we refuse to learn secular studies. We need Muslims in every other stream, the Science stream, the Arts stream, the Business stream etc to show that Muslims are not one dimensional. Islam afterall is not just a religion of worship, but it's actually a WAY OF LIFE... MY way of life. Taking the secular stream doesn't mean we can't practice Islam or that we are not practicing Islam.

Hmm... I know I am only one person. One Muslim. But one can still make a difference right? That's why I strive to do well in school. Hopefully I motivate other Muslims as well. I think I need a new badge that says, "JOM BELAJAR!" haha.

It's really sad larh to see a lot of Malay/Muslim students playing around in school not bothering with studies or not trying to always better their grades. What's happening??

Ok if I wanna do well this term, I guess the first step is to GET BACK TO WORK... NOW!!! K byez!

Oh I have yet to say what I feel like becoming... I wanna try out for medical school, I wanna be a doctor and I wanna cure people. :)

Akhirnya, udah usai aku membaca novel ayat-ayat cinta. Tidak sekali aku menangis, namun hati dipenuhi rasa pilu. Amat indah sekali novel itu. Cuma terdapat beberapa ungkap sahaja yang tidak bisa aku setujui.

Dakwah... Indah sekali usaha mereka berdakwah. Segala-galanya dilakukan ikhlas kerana Allah, kerana taqwa mereka kepada Allah, hanya mengharapkan balasan daripada Allah.

Sungguh sabar sekali dalam menghadapi ujian. Ujian bukan sekecil yang dihadapi kita seharian, namun ujian yang membawa seseorang mendekati ajalnya.

Namun novel ini mengajarkan bahawa Allahlah yang Maha berkuasa, tidak ada yang terjadi yang bukan kehendaknya.

A really nicely-written book. Inspirational & motivational to me. Makes me wanna manage my time properly and plan for the future. Makes me wanna give my best in my studies and learn because of Allah. Makes me realise the ilmu that I have is a tiny weeny part of ilmu Allah and without Allah's consent, I won't even have the ilmu within me. Makes me wanna hafal the Qur'an from the start to the end with the translations and frequent my tongue to utter words from the Qur'an. Makes me wanna learn Arab and speak in Arab to my friends. Makes me wanna go Al-Azhar to study, or even Syria. Or at least, makes me wanna study Pengajian Islam in greater depth. Especially tafsir Al-Qur'an and hadith (especially when Ust Fathurrahman also added that ilmu hadith u=is essential in all the other fields in Islamic Studies). Wah, makes me wanna better myself and wanna be a better muslimah. Makes me wanna jaga my akhlak more. Makes me long for syurga more! Strengthens my faith! Alhamdulillah...

SubhanaAllah, masyaAllah, what a wonderful book... Sesucinya sesuatu cinta itu tak akan sesuci cinta buat Illahi dan Rasul-Nya.

Apr 2006 was a great month for me, had some motivational stories posted up there. Unfortunately they don't appear on my labels and I didn't have those using my previous blog account.

Bagaimana Cinta Kita Pada Rasul. Read it.

I'm so scared.... So so scared. What if I can't finish my assignments? My printer at home no ink oredi and it's ngek ngok oredi oso. How how? And I definitely can't finish the assignments in time to print at tp. Library closes at 1pm! I've got a long way to go... I've barely started. Should I write in English or Malay? Hmm, I can't decide... and my bibliography is so rabak. All internet sources. Trusted source or not oso I dunno.

Oh and hadith internet source is so hard to find! So many are corrupted opinions of the different groups of 'Islam': the Shia, the Sunni, the dunno what else. I'm a Muslim. My religion is Islam. Allah is my God and God of the whole universe. And Muhammad is Allah's messenger. And I believe in Rasulullah's companions, as well as the scholars who have contributed much to the Muslim society then and now. Qur'an is my guide. Hadith/Sunnah Rasul is my interpreter of the Qur'an. I believe Qur'an is kalamullah and it is the truth. And I do believe it is complete and applies to all of this era: Rasulullah's umat. Yet I do believe in the hadith/sunnah as well, because I believe nothing comes out of Rasulullah's mouth but the truth and none of his actions are wrong, unless Allah points it out, because eventhough Rasulullah is a highly-respected man and the best of all examples, he is still a human and humans make mistakes. Though his mistakes are immediately corrected by Allah whereas ours are not. If you then think that Imam Bukhari, Imam Muslim and all those scholars who compiled the hadiths are fake, I''ve studied their histories and the methodologies they used and I believe that if they say a certain hadith bis sahih or authentic then I shall believe so. I believe what I believe and you believe what you believe. And I believe Islam is Islam.

I just can't see why they so cannot tolerate Islam as it is. They cannot say something bad about Allah or the Qur'an, they'll say something bad about Rasulullah or the hadtiths. They cannot say something bad about Rasulullah, they'll say something bad about the scholars or their works. Irritating orientalists and opinionated people.

in the first place, why must there be all these groups of Muslims that call themselves under a different name?? I'm confused at times because of all these. It's like they've created new religions you know. They may be right in some matters, but i dunno la eh.. It's like if they go on doing whatever they believe, it's up to them la ok, but if they go on and criticise others, then it's like so politics uh. And for sure, they are making my life as a student trying to complete my assignments very hard.

I'm not saying I am right and they are wrong. For all I know, I am wrong. And I guess I'm being judgemental and am stereotyping. And therefore, I pray to Allah:

O Allah, please guide me to the right path. The path of those whom you give nikmat. Not the path of those who are at a loss or those who are lost.

I feel like I'm doing social studies all over again. Like reliability, detecting biasness and whatsoever.

Christianity hindered Scientific Progress in Europe

The eventual outcome of the struggle for power between the Church and the thinkers and philosophers was the separation of the Church and the state through a compromise solution. In this compromise deal, the authority of the Church was limited to preserving the morals in society and conducting rituals, and the state was to be run on man made laws. This compromise solution is the basis upon which the Capitalism* was founded. The notion that religion is at odds with scientific development is alien to Islam. History shows that most of the scientific developments by the Muslims were carried out when Islam prevailed, and not when it was forcibly removed from their lives.

The Present Situation

The Muslim world today is characterised with failure, disunity and stagnation in science and technology. Despite the fact that the Muslims have enormous wealth, they still lag behind in industrial development. How did this come about? This sad state of affairs is not the result of following Islam, rather it is a direct result of not following Islam. The constitutions and laws which prevail in the Muslim World today are derived from secular origins. That is, they have nothing to do with Islam, for they are man made constructions. When Islam prevailed as a way of life, with its own political, economic, social, educational and judicial system, Muslims and non Muslims in the Islamic state enjoyed peace and security. The development of science was simulated by the Qur'an itself and very quickly the Muslims became the leaders in the field of science and technology.

*this post is in no way any offence to Christians. I'm just reading up on history and thought I'd share what I found. Actually, it's more of a wake-up call to Muslims... Woi! You want success but you don't practice your religion, how can... Call yourself a Muslim.. Muslim by name only! No wonder there's so much problems in the malay-Muslim community in Singapore. Sad know... How I wish to see my time having a Muslim city like Damascus or Baghdad (these two were the central area of knowledge where scholars everywhere come to study at) be the central learning point, not only for Islamic studies but for all kinds of studies as well...

Yes, Islam is the only non-Christian faith, which makes it an article of faith to believe in Jesus Christ (pbuh). No Muslim is a Muslim if he does not believe in Jesus Christ (pbuh). We believe that he was one of the mightiest Messengers of Allah (swt). We believe that he was the Messiah, translated ‘Christ’. We believe that he was born miraculously, without any male intervention, which many modern day Christians do not believe. We believe that he gave life to the dead with God’s permission. We believe that he healed those born blind and the lepers with God’s permission.



Allah says in the Qur'an regarding Jesus Christ (pbuh):



And remember Jesus the son of Mary said: "O Children of Israel! I am the Messenger of Allah (sent) to you…” (Surah Saff 61:6)



Infact Islam makes it an article of faith to believe not only in Jesus Christ (pbuh) but all the Messengers that preceded and followed him. By name only twenty-five Messengers are mentioned in the Qur'an. Allah instructs us in the Qur'an:



“O you who believe! believe in Allah and his Messenger and the scripture which He has sent to His Messenger and the scripture which He sent to those before (him). And who denies Allah, His angels, His Books, His Messengers and the Day of Judgment have gone far far astray.” (Al-Qur'an 4:136)



Thus belief in the Messengers, including Jesus (pbuh) is an important belief of Islam. Though Jesus (pbuh) is mentioned by name twenty-five times in the Qur'an, he is also referred with other respectable terms such as ‘Ibne Maryam’ - son of Mary; as ‘Masih’ – translated Christ, as ‘Rasulullah’ - Messenger of Allah, as ‘Abdullah’ – servant of Allah, as ‘a word of Allah’, as ‘a spirit proceeding from Allah’, as ‘a sign of Allah’ and numerous other epithets spread over fifteen different chapters of the Qur'an.



It is also true that the Muslims, on the authority of the Qur'an and the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) believe in the second coming of Jesus Christ (pbuh). He was the only Prophet of Allah who was raised up alive. Allah says:



‘…They said (in boast) "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary the Messenger of Allah"; but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them; and those who differ therein are full of doubts with no (certain) knowledge but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not. Nay Allah raised him up unto Himself; and Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise.’(Al-Qur'an 4:157-158)



Allah mentions the second coming of Jesus Christ (pbuh) in the following verse of the Qur'an:



“And indeed, he (i.e. Jesus) will be (a sign for) knowledge of the Hour, so be not in doubt of it, and follow Me. This is a straight path.” (Al-Qur'an 43:61)



The reason why Jesus (pbuh) is the only Prophet of Allah who was raised up alive by Allah is because he was the only Prophet whose “followers” mistook him as God. They wrongly say that he claimed divinity. Thus he will come back again to this world to clarify all such misconceptions. Says Allah in the Qur'an:



‘And behold! Allah will say "O Jesus the son of Mary! did you say unto men worship me and my mother as gods in derogation of Allah"? He will say: "Glory to You! never could I say what I had no right (to say). Had I said such a thing you would indeed have known it. You know what is in my heart though I know not what is in yours. For You know in full all that is hidden.’ (Al-Qur'an 5:116)



There are no less than seventy Ahadith that speak of the second coming of Jesus Christ (pbuh). In one of the Ahadith, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is reported to have said:



"By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, son of Mary (Jesus) will shortly descend amongst you people (Muslims) as a just ruler and will break the cross and kill the pig and abolish the Jizya (a tax taken from the non-Muslims who are in the protection of the Muslim government). Then there will be abundance of money and nobody will accept charitable gifts.” (Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 3. Hadith no. 425)



It should also be borne in mind that Jesus Christ (pbuh), in his second coming will not be coming with any new message or revelation. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is reported to have said:



"How will you be when the son of Mary (i.e. Jesus) descends amongst you and he will judge people by the Law of the Qur'an and not by the law of the Gospel”. (Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 4. Hadith No. 658)



Let’s now analyse the following words attributed to Jesus Christ (pbuh) in the Bible:



"Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” [The Bible, Mathew 7:22-24]



In the verses quoted above, Jesus (pbuh) said that in his second coming, he would ask the people to depart from him, to get away from him because he wouldn’t know them. Who are these people? The Muslims or the Hindus? The answer is neither Hindus nor Muslims but the Christians, because Muslims or Hindus do not claim to do “Miracles” in the name of Jesus Christ (pbuh) nor do they cast out devils in his name.



Thus Muslims believe in Jesus Christ (pbuh) to be one of the mightiest Messengers of Allah and also believe in his second coming.

I really like the first paragraph. It's true. The last few paragraphs from the verse from the bible onwards I'm not so sure, cos I don't understand uh.
