P.S. You can roll over each bar to read a short note on each

You're a thinker
#

Your cautiousness, appreciation of functionality, and imagination combine to make you a THINKER. (hmm... I guess so)
#

You have a vivid capacity for imagery that allows you to see beyond your present circumstances. (yup, sometimes, and these imageries help me get out of alot of difficult depressing situations)
#

You like to be sure of yourself before voicing your opinion. (yes, I do mostly)
#

A lot of your time is spent at home, or with the people you care about. (yes, if there's nothing, you'll find me at home the whole day)
#

Although you may dream often, you're very aware of how things work, and you value things that work well.
#

You take comfort in the familiar, and value predictability—and others value those things in you. (though I don't mind trying new things sometimes)
#

Accordingly, you prefer a set routine, and although you often imagine how things can be different, you're hesitant to take risks to change things. (but these days i seem to need to change my plans last min, I put more trust in where my feet brings me than where my mind and heart directs)
#

Sometimes you doubt whether you have the ability to face certain challenges, but your practical focus helps you solve most problems. (doubtful uhuh)
#

Because of this, you tend to be more reactive than proactive, thinking thoroughly about the challenges that you face. (yes I think/plan so much but don't do anything, and that's bad uh)
#

You have a broad-based, theoretical understanding of the world that allows you to understand its workings.

If you want to be different:
#

Try indulging your imagination a bit more by experiencing new and different things. (insyaAllah I would!!)
#

Have a little more faith in your capacity to do things—turn your thoughts into actions! (haha insyaAllah I'll try la k)

how you relate to others
You are Faithful
#

Your trust in others, respect for tradition, and caring nature make you FAITHFUL.
#

Maintaining a few intimate relationships is more important to you than knowing a lot of people, and you share a lot with your close friends. (not so true)
#

Those who have managed to get close to you value your camaraderie, and they know that they can trust you with anything; you're a good listener. (it's for you to judge)
#

While you can usually see several sides of an argument, you often have a strong opinion as to which side is correct—the order of things is usually clear to you. (mostly, but more often than not I won't say my opinion)
#

Your perspective on the world is based on careful observation, and you know a lot about how people feel in—and react to—many situations.
#

Your exploration of others' feelings has led you to believe that although people generally act appropriately, having clear social rules is very important to a functional society. (yep, that's why we have law what)
#

Time alone for reflection is important to you—you are introspective and aware of your own feelings. (YES!! I need that reflection time)
#

Faithful is as faithful does—you expect those with whom you are close to be loyal to you, and you take betrayal of your trust very seriously. (seriously yes. if u're nice to me, insyaAllah I'll try to be doubly nice to u hehe)

If you want to be different:
#

Some of the alternate perspectives that you understand may have more value than you give them credit for—keep in mind that right and wrong aren't always so clear-cut. (haha the grey areas between blc and white huh?)
#

While you are able to reap the benefits of your time alone, and may see interacting with a lot of people as more tiring than exciting, remember that there is a lot to be learned from experiencing things and not just reflecting on them. (well, you have to experience something and reflect on it la kan)

That was rather fun! Hehe.

INTP

Thursday, August 14, 2008

Takde kerja lain gali archives hehehe... and found the analysis. The results INTP was from Psycho class last sem. I think yea I'm very much like this. Especially the one I bold the whole paragraph. If I know what I'm talking about, my voice will be loud and clear. If not, cakap nyamuk agaknya je dengar haha.

INTP - The Thinker

Logical, original, creative thinkers. Can become very excited about theories and ideas. Exceptionally capable and driven to turn theories into clear understandings. Highly value knowledge, competence and logic. Quiet and reserved, hard to get to know well. Individualistic, having no interest in leading or following others.

Portrait of an INTP - Introverted iNtuitive Thinking Perceiving

(Introverted Thinking with Extraverted Intuition)

As an INTP, your primary mode of living is focused internally, where you deal with things rationally and logically. Your secondary mode is external, where you take things in primarily via your intuition.

INTPs live in the world of theoretical possibilities. They see everything in terms of how it could be improved, or what it could be turned into. They live primarily inside their own minds, having the ability to analyze difficult problems, identify patterns, and come up with logical explanations. They seek clarity in everything, and are therefore driven to build knowledge. They are the "absent-minded professors", who highly value intelligence and the ability to apply logic to theories to find solutions. They typically are so strongly driven to turn problems into logical explanations, that they live much of their lives within their own heads, and may not place as much importance or value on the external world. Their natural drive to turn theories into concrete understanding may turn into a feeling of personal responsibility to solve theoretical problems, and help society move towards a higher understanding.

INTPs value knowledge above all else. Their minds are constantly working to generate new theories, or to prove or disprove existing theories. They approach problems and theories with enthusiasm and skepticism, ignoring existing rules and opinions and defining their own approach to the resolution. They seek patterns and logical explanations for anything that interests them. They're usually extremely bright, and able to be objectively critical in their analysis. They love new ideas, and become very excited over abstractions and theories. They love to discuss these concepts with others. They may seem "dreamy" and distant to others, because they spend a lot of time inside their minds musing over theories. They hate to work on routine things - they would much prefer to build complex theoretical solutions, and leave the implementation of the system to others. They are intensely interested in theory, and will put forth tremendous amounts of time and energy into finding a solution to a problem with has piqued their interest.

INTPs do not like to lead or control people. They're very tolerant and flexible in most situations, unless one of their firmly held beliefs has been violated or challenged, in which case they may take a very rigid stance. The INTP is likely to be very shy when it comes to meeting new people. On the other hand, the INTP is very self-confident and gregarious around people they know well, or when discussing theories which they fully understand.

The INTP has no understanding or value for decisions made on the basis of personal subjectivity or feelings. They strive constantly to achieve logical conclusions to problems, and don't understand the importance or relevance of applying subjective emotional considerations to decisions. For this reason, INTPs are usually not in-tune with how people are feeling, and are not naturally well-equiped to meet the emotional needs of others.

The INTP may have a problem with self-aggrandizement and social rebellion, which will interfere with their creative potential. Since their Feeling side is their least developed trait, the INTP may have difficulty giving the warmth and support that is sometimes necessary in intimate relationships. If the INTP doesn't realize the value of attending to other people's feelings, he or she may become overly critical and sarcastic with others. If the INTP is not able to find a place for themself which supports the use of their strongest abilities, they may become generally negative and cynical. If the INTP has not developed their Sensing side sufficiently, they may become unaware of their environment, and exhibit weakness in performing maintenance-type tasks, such as bill-paying and dressing appropriately.

For the INTP, it is extremely important that ideas and facts are expressed correctly and succinctly. They are likely to express themselves in what they believe to be absolute truths. Sometimes, their well thought-out understanding of an idea is not easily understandable by others, but the INTP is not naturally likely to tailor the truth so as to explain it in an understandable way to others. The INTP may be prone to abandoning a project once they have figured it out, moving on to the next thing. It's important that the INTP place importance on expressing their developed theories in understandable ways. In the end, an amazing discovery means nothing if you are the only person who understands it.

The INTP is usually very independent, unconventional, and original. They are not likely to place much value on traditional goals such as popularity and security. They usually have complex characters, and may tend to be restless and temperamental. They are strongly ingenious, and have unconventional thought patterns which allows them to analyze ideas in new ways. Consequently, a lot of scientific breakthroughs in the world have been made by the INTP.

The INTP is at his best when he can work on his theories independently. When given an environment which supports his creative genius and possible eccentricity, the INTP can accomplish truly remarkable things. These are the pioneers of new thoughts in our society.

Jungian functional preference ordering:

Dominant: Introverted Thinking

Auxiliary: Extraverted Intuition

Tertiary: Introverted Sensing

Inferior: Extraverted Feeling

Psycho/Easily Tired

Wednesday, July 09, 2008

It's so hard to understand people's minds. That's why they teach that in diploma/degree level...

Dah lah, dunno what to say. There's so much I have to filter to post here.

I'm seriously havving trouble with schoolwork. I dunno what is it with me, but I get really tired easily these days meaning I can't complete my schoolwork on time. And I feel bad, as I pull down my team members with me. I'm really afraid they'd give me low marks for peer evaluation. But, I'm really trying my best! I dunno lah... Is there anything that can make me stay awake besides coffee. I really have a lot of overdue stuff, which I know I can do IF I have the time... Hoping for understanding from my team members...

:( Back to work. Have quiz later and tmr and 2 PBLs and 1 project and 3 tugasans. Splendid... Wish me luck seh. (Doa for me ye)

Putting together Psychology & Islam

Monday, February 11, 2008

Hmm... Psychology with Islam? I was looking for some answers from the net to my last psycho online quiz. Actually ade buku, tapi malas nak masuk bilik amek haha. Oh anyway, came across this link from google search and it attracted my attention...

Humanistic Psychology & Islam: Partners in Prison Reform
Sayid Muhammad-Muhsin Jalali-Tehrani, Ph.D.
Founder, Islamic Association for Humanistic Psychology
Mashhad Security and Corrections Facility
Counseling and Mental Health Center

Freeing the Prisoner

The person who commits a crime is out of touch with himself, in a state of intrapersonal, interpersonal, and transpersonal conflict.

Being in touch with the transpersonal helps the individual tap into a wealth of wisdom and guidance and achieve natural health and harmony.

Corrections facilities owe it to the community to do more than detain or penalize prisoners until their release.

The well-functioning corrections facility prepares the individual to return to live in harmony within the community.

Laying the Groundwork

The human being does not exist separately from the environment.

The prison that rehabilitates inmates is the one whose environment is therapeutic.

Personnel were carefully chosen for their ability to show positive regard and respect to the inmates.

Prison security and management staff are an integral part of the environment and need support also.

The milieu must free all aspects of the total human being, physical, economic, social, cognitive, psychological, and open the way to the spiritual.

SPIRITUAL integration coordinates the whole person.

Integration implies the coordination of an entire system around one goal. Worship is precisely this: an orientation toward an all-inclusive goal.

Religious values impart a sense of meaning and direction in life. A religious perspective strings a thread of meaning and purpose through the fragmentary and paradoxical elements of life.

Only a genuine religious orientation yields positive effects upon the personality. A genuine religious orientation is lived, never used; it is adopted by inner choice, not outer inducement.

Prayer, devotion, meditation, and discussions are valuable parts of each day. They form genuine links to the transpersonal.

Read more here =)

The site also has this link about Tasawwuf & Sufism. I keep hearing about these but I have no idea what it is! Kat usrah dengar. Kat madrasah pon dengar... But I dunno whether this site can be trusted or not. Maklumlah.. Zaman technology ni sesape pon boleh post. Ustaz yang ngah ajar me Sejarah & Tamadun Islam kat Andalus ni je ade ENAM website... So ya, sesape yang tahu bolehlah terangkan ape yang betul dan ape yang salah ye?

SS (School Submissions)

Thursday, February 07, 2008

After Saturday, basically I slacked all the way till Monday. Was just too tired and besides it was so hard to get a connection, boo hoo... The result: I crammed everything on Monday haha.

Let's see, what did I do on Sunday? Oh ya, slept through the morning, then attended the last session for my first DPIA module afterwhich I went out to eat at Simpang Bedok with Fityan comm partly to celeb rate Zik's birthday. Happy birthday Zikry!

Monday was quite tiring cos I had to cram everything then. MCT tutorial assignment was due on Monday and I only started doing it on Monday morning itself. I went home at nearly 7pm finishing it up lar. The 1st point was well elaborated with examples and all whereas the second one was just one small paragraph summarised up.

MCT lab practical test was also on Monday. We had to do cell counting using the glass hemocytometer and medium changing in the laminar flow hood. Guess what? We were given only 5 mins for each! My cell counting part was horrrrrrrible. I dunno why but the stained solution kept seeping over to the other chamber without filling up the chamber that I wanna fill!!!!! And when I turned the hemocytometer to the other side, the same thing happened also! And after I clean up the mess and BEFORE I can try to fill up another chamber, my 5 mins is up, DANG! So, Mr KOk can't even grade my microscopy skill, sure fail this part lar.... I like the second part though. Know why? Hehe, cause after the whole procedure Mr Zhang told me I did very well for it! VERY WELL ok... Waah, it soooo made my day...

The day didn't end just at 7.. I still had to study for Abchm interview and also compile my Abchm group's summary because everyone just didn't wanna take the responsibility. They didn't even reply my message asking for their help to compile! grr... Only Thilini had the decency to reply, but she can't compile cos she has to work and all, I understand lar... And the frustrating thing is that after I compiled it, I saved it in my thumbdrive and somehow I fell asleep beside my lappie before I can transfer my files from my thumbdrive into my lappie folder. And somehowww, my lappie shut down on its own at 3am in the morning and in my rush to hear the Subuh azan on my MP3/thumbdrive, I didn't log into my account to safely remove my hardware and just pulled it out thus damaging my MP3. Luckily it still can work as a thumdrive AS LONG AS I don't switch on my MP3, and if I do, I'll have to wait till it's battery is empty. So back to the story, the conclusion is that I had to recompile the summary at 6am in the morning and took nearly another hour switching on my main comp to print out the whole 50 pages. Keep in mind I still have to study for my interview, which I did in between all those waiting and what not.

The interview? It was "not bad" as quoted by Mdm Huang Yan. Waah, not bad only... Not bad is worst than good ok.. I answered around 4 out of 7 questions. UV/Vis: State the Beer Lambert's law and its limitations. I manage to give the equation and ONLY ONE limitation, which I couldn't even explain :( Sample Pretreatment: Almosttt perfect, I gave a very smooth explanation on how the Soxhlet apparatus works except I made a small mistake about the thimble and the overflowing part. AAS: Perfect answer for Hollow Cathode Lamp, I won't accept anything less than perfect anyway cos I read quite a number of books AND websites about how it works. Gas Chromatography: She gave me the easiest question imaginable, which is to name the components of the GC system BUT I SIMPLY BLANKED OUT, oh my, oh my, luckily it came to me, veeery slowwly though it was, so paiseh! HPLC: Didn't understand her question so I couldn't answer but after she told us the answer, I was like, "Waaaaaah! That was what she was asking for?? I KNOW the answer!" FISH: I got the easiest question again, which was to name 2fluorochromes but I didn't study so I dunno the answer! I could only give FITC. Radioisotopes: I can't even remember if she asked me a question! I kept thinking and thinking yet I still can't remember. After school, while waiting for 15, Mdm huang Yan sat down beside me and we chatted for nearly 20 mins. She said that my interview was ok, but my term test and all my lab weren't good. Yeah, I know that. Whatever lar, NO MORE ABCHM FOR ME WOOHOO!!!

After the interview, I straightaway met Ad and Pooja and joined Jamie at the bookshop to buy a few more things for Chloe. The things from the bookshop were small but they're quite meaningful. The keychain and the fridge magnet contained words about friendship and it was so sweeet! Just like Chloe hehe. I sooooo love what we'd gotten her. Personalized and so her haha.

Lemme tell you how we surprised her... Initially we (Ad, Pooja, Tun, Jamie and I) wanted to surprise her straight after our psycho presentation in front of the whole class, but our tutor seemed to be in a hurry so we decided to do it outside. Tun didn't know the updated plan then he just left the lt so Pooja had to run out of the lt like mad to stop him and it must have looked so rude of us to run out of the lt like that lol. The tutor must be thinking, "My God, they must be too happy to end Psycho" haha. Anyway, how I asked Pooja to run after Tun was by telling her and Chloe, "Eh pooja, can you stop Tun? I wanna say something. We talk outside." It's a white lie, duhh! When Chloe and I walked out, Pooja and Tun were waiting for us and suddenly Ad jumped out from behind a pillar with the present and we sang for her. There were people there and they clapped along haha. Chloe's expression is priceless I tell you. It was paiseh + surprised + touched all at the same time! Too bad we didn't catch that on camera :( Chloe's expression made my day... After all the hectic of runnig from interview to bookshop to comp lab for psycho rehearsal to staff room for amic meet to engine school for psycho to Blk 21 to solat zohor and back to lt27. Rush rush, a lot of adrenaline I tell you. I was having almost a migraine by night time lah. Pounding very badly... Could be from the Myojo mee I had for lunch also haha. Miss my instant noodles k!

There's actually a lot more to write but I'd written for like 2hrs and it's 2plus am and I wanna sleep.. Happy Belated Birthday Chloe! And Happy lunar New Year to those celebrate otherwise Happy Holidays to those who're not!

Some pics taken during Fityan Comm outing to Simpang Bedok hehe

The group initially before Hamzah, Ustaz & Kak nor arrived. Asrul not in pic.

The group at the end of the day after I've left. Irsyad not in pics. Birthday Boy Zik on the furthest right.

Our chairman Mohksin! He's not posing btw... He was talking to someone behind our camerawoman haha. Gini eh pegang fork and knife? Oooh, baru saya tauu!

The only three roses among so many sharp sharp thorns, that is before Kak Nor arrived.

Yum Hilmi's something Claypot lol.

Yum Yum Cheese Fries!

Yum Yum Yum Mohksin's fish n chips!

Pretty Good Day

Saturday, February 02, 2008

Hmm, today's not a bad day :)

Had psycho common test at 11am. Woke up at 5-6am to cram 3 1/2 topics. At arnd 10 reached school and went to the wrong lt. Haha whatever la, I just sat on the parapet and studied until it's almost time... The test itself was pretty ok: definition and application. Definitions... I could only remember bits of keywords for each definition and tried to figure out the rest as logically as I can. Eg. Id is the raw, unorganized part of our unconscious mind. Padahal I only remember raw, unorganized haha. Application pulak... Main hentam, highlight from scenarios, 'copy paste' haha. Explanation best... Apelagi crap ah! Kalau kena give example pon same. LOL. After the test, big headache. Maklumlah, cram cram then vomit out everything (s
ounds anorexic lol).

After test, Ad, Pooja, Jamie and I went to TM to eat. Since we couldn't agree on eating at one common place, we bought takeaways then eat at TM open space. The were taken so we sat on the ground instead. Macam picnic haha. Picnic by the playground... haha. Oh, our main purpose of going to TM was not to eat or celebrate or whatever... We were there to get Chloe a present!! Her birthday was on Thurs but we didn't have time to get her anything. Initially we thought of sharing to buy her ONE present but couldn't find anything suitable for her that she'd use frequently and that's within our budget. In the end we decided to buy separate items then put together in a hamper. Got that idea when we were at Popular. Before that we were at Mini Toons, where there's a birthday flower but it's yellow and yellow is her unlucky colour lol, and Toys 'R' Us where we were looking for something teen Titans-y haha but we ended up playing with the toys haha. Ad was unseparable from the elmo. As for me, somehow I keep accidentally hurting Ad and say sorry lol opps. Accidental k. Oh btw, Cards 'n' such have some cute items on sale! I dunno why but I like! If only I'd had more cash on me, I'd definitely get myself something lol. Things were as cheap as $1.90 larh ok! At a place like cards 'n' such...

In the late afternoon, I followed my brother to Funan IT mall to redeem a Compaq Psesario C700 widescreen notebook with Windows Vista. And guess who gets the notebook?! ME! As a present hehe. $299 only, cos we extended 2 years contract with Starhub for MaxOnline or Cable tv lar. Not bad eh Hehe. I'm using it now. It feels good yeah! Though I'm still not so used to it...

Wah, I'm sleepy already. I have AMic report due Mon morn, MCT lab practical test on Mon aftnn and MCT report due Mon 5pm. Tues, I must prepare for ABchm interview by finetuning my summary and reading through the others' summary. And it seems that I have to compile for them again. On tues also I have psycho presentation, but I'll handle that on Tues. Can't wait for CNY break!

P.S. Hafiz wants me to mention him. Let's give him some adjectives: irritating, childish, what else? Haha, jk ;P

OCD

Wednesday, January 23, 2008

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder where a person has recurrent and unwanted ideas or impulses (called obsessions) and an urge or compulsion to do something to relieve the discomfort caused by the obsession. The obsessive thoughts range from the idea of losing control, to themes surrounding religion or keeping things or parts of one's body clean all the time. Compulsions are behaviors that help reduce the anxiety surrounding the obsessions. Most people (90%) who have OCD have both obsessions and compulsions. The thoughts and behaviors a person with OCD has are senseless, repetitive, distressing, and sometimes harmful, but they are also difficult to overcome.

Above extract is from MentalHelp.net. Read below for more information...

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric anxiety disorder most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive, distressing, intrusive thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or "rituals") which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.

The typical OCD sufferer performs tasks (or compulsions) to seek relief from obsession-related anxiety. To others, these tasks may appear odd and unnecessary. But for the sufferer, such tasks can feel critically important, and must be performed in particular ways to ward off dire consequences and to stop the stress from building up. Examples of these tasks: repeatedly checking that one's parked car has been locked before leaving it; turning lights on and off a set number of times before exiting a room; repeatedly washing hands at regular intervals throughout the day.

Symptoms may include some, all, or perhaps none of the following:

Repeated hand washing.
Repeated clearing of the throat, although nothing may need to be cleared.
Specific counting systems — e.g., counting in groups of four, arranging objects in groups of three, grouping objects in odd/even numbered groups, etc.
One serious symptom which stems from this is "counting" steps — e.g., feeling the necessity to take 12 steps to the car in the morning.
Perfectly aligning objects at complete, absolute right angles, or aligning objects perfectly parallel etc. This symptom is shared with OCPD and can be confused with this condition unless it is realized that in OCPD it is not stress-related.
Fear of acting out on violent or aggressive impulses, or feeling overly responsible for the safety of others.
Sexual obsessions or unwanted sexual thoughts. Two classic examples are fear of being homosexual or fear of being a pedophile. In both cases, sufferers will obsess over whether or not they are genuinely aroused by the thoughts.
Strange and chronic worries about certain events such as sleeping, eating, leaving home, etc without proper items. An example would be one who literally can't fall asleep without a metronome.
Having to "cancel out" bad thoughts with good thoughts. An example of this would be imagining harming a child and having to imagine a child playing happily to cancel it out.
A fear of contamination (see Mysophobia); some sufferers may fear the presence of human body secretions such as saliva, blood, sweat, tears, vomit, or mucus, or excretions such as urine or feces. Some OCD sufferers even fear that the soap they're using is contaminated.[6]
A need for both sides of the body to feel even. A person with OCD might walk down a sidewalk and step on a crack with the ball of their left foot, then feel the need to step on another crack with the ball of their right foot. If one hand gets wet, the sufferer may feel very uncomfortable if the other is not. If the sufferer is walking and bumps into something, he/she may hit the object or person back to feel a sense of evenness. These symptoms are also experienced in a reversed manner. Some sufferers would rather things to be uneven, favoring the preferred side of the body.
An obsession with numbers (be it in math class, watching TV, or in a room). Some people are obsessed with even numbers and loathe odd numbers (odd numbers cause them a great deal of anxiety and often make the person uncomfortable or even angry) or vice versa.
Twisting the head on a toy around, then twisting it all the way back exactly in the opposite direction (see even body section).
Fear of transformation. A fear of transforming into someone or something else. Losing ones self or taking on undesired characteristics is what creates the anxiety and fear. Rituals such as counting, blinking, checking, hand washing etc. may eliminate the anxiety when they are done in a way which "feels right" to the sufferer.
In some cases, a pattern of uniformity on a bank account may indicate obsessive-compulsive spending. For example, an OCD-affected figure skater may issue a check to his/her coach for a private lesson every week, paying the same amount each time. In addition, the affected person may feel complacent about or invincible against the economic issues.
There are many other possible symptoms, and one need not display those above to suffer from OCD. Formal diagnosis is performed by a mental health professional. Furthermore, possessing the symptoms above is not an absolute diagnosis of OCD.

OCD sufferers are aware that such thoughts and behavior are not rational[citation needed], but feel bound to comply with them to fend off feelings of panic or dread. Because sufferers are consciously aware of this irrationality but feel helpless to push it away, untreated OCD is often regarded as one of the most vexing and frustrating of the major anxiety disorders.[citation needed]

In an attempt to further relate the immense distress that those afflicted with this condition must bear, Barlow and Durand (2006) use the following example.[7] They implore readers not to think of pink elephants. Their point lies in the assumption that most people will immediately create an image of a pink elephant in their minds, even though told not to do so. The more one attempts to stop thinking of these colorful animals, the more one will continue to generate these mental images. This phenomenon is termed the "Thought Avoidance Paradox”, and it plagues those with OCD on a daily basis, for no matter how hard one tries to get these disturbing images and thoughts out of one's mind, feelings of distress and anxiety inevitably prevail. Although everyone may experience unpleasant thoughts at one time or another, these are usually warranted concerns that are short-lived and fade after an adequate time period has lapsed. However, this is not the case for OCD sufferers.[8]

Obsessive-compulsive disorder is often confused with the separate condition obsessive compulsive personality disorder. The two are not the same condition, however. OCD is ego dystonic, meaning that the disorder is incompatible with the sufferer's self-concept. Because disorders that are ego dystonic go against an individual's perception of his/herself, they tend to cause much distress. OCPD, on the other hand, is ego syntonic—marked by the individual's acceptance that the characteristics displayed as a result of this disorder are compatible with his/her self-image. Ego syntonic disorders understandably cause no distress. Persons suffering from OCD are often aware that their behavior is not rational and are unhappy about their obsessions but nevertheless feel compelled by them. Persons with OCPD, by contrast, are not aware of anything abnormal about themselves; they will readily explain why their actions are rational, and it is usually impossible to convince them otherwise. Persons with OCD are ridden with anxiety; persons who suffer from OCPD, by contrast, tend to derive pleasure from their obsessions or compulsions.[9] This is a significant difference between these disorders.

Equally frequently, these rationalizations do not apply to the overall behavior, but to each instance individually; for example, a person compulsively checking their front door may argue that the time taken and stress caused by one more check of the front door is considerably less than the time and stress associated with being robbed, and thus the check is the better option. In practice, after that check, the individual is still not sure, and it is still better in terms of time and stress to do one more check, and this reasoning can continue as long as necessary.

Some OCD sufferers exhibit what is known as overvalued ideas. In such cases, the person with OCD will truly be uncertain whether the fears that cause them to perform their compulsions are irrational or not. After some discussion, it is possible to convince the individual that their fears may be unfounded. It may be more difficult to do ERP therapy on such patients, because they may be, at least initially, unwilling to cooperate. For this reason OCD has often been likened to a disease of pathological doubt, in which the sufferer, while not usually delusional, is often unable to fully realize what sorts of dreaded events are reasonably possible and which aren't.

OCD is different from behaviors such as gambling addiction and overeating. People with these disorders typically experience at least some pleasure from their activity; OCD sufferers do not actively want to perform their compulsive tasks, and experience no pleasure from doing so.

OCD is placed in the anxiety class of mental illness, but like many chronic stress disorders it can lead to clinical depression over time. The constant stress of the condition can cause sufferers to develop a deadening of spirit, a numbing frustration, or sense of hopelessness. OCD's effects on day-to-day life—particularly its substantial consumption of time—can produce difficulties with work, finances and relationships.

There is no known cure for OCD as of yet, but there are a number of successful treatment options available.

Some cases are thought to be caused at least in part by childhood streptococcal infections and are termed PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal infections). The streptococcal antibodies become involved in an autoimmune process. Though this idea is not set in stone, if it does prove to be true, there is cause to believe that OCD can to some very small extent be "caught" via exposure to strep throat (just as one may catch a cold). However, if OCD is caused by bacteria, this provides hope that antibiotics may eventually be used to treat or prevent it.[11]

Ramblings

Sunday, January 20, 2008

Was doing psycho weekly online quiz earlier and came across a case-scenario which sounded a bit like how I feels sometime. It's called 'inferiority complex'. Sheesh, since when do I have this low self-esteem??!! What triggered it also I have no idea!

Btw, today is a more motivated day. I wouldn't say I spent every single minute doing something worthwhile as I should, but I just feel a bit more uplifted thasn a few days ago. Please Allah, lift up my spirits and take away all my sorrows!

Cahaya Iman

Iman bagaikan emas permata
Letaknya di dalam jiwa
Kemilau warnanya bak cahaya
Menyuluh hidup seluruh manusia

Iman letaknya di hati
Suburkanlah dengan ilmu
Bajainya dengan zikrullah
Ia menunjukkan kita
jalan keredhaan Allah
Imanlah harta yang paling berharga

Iman kurniaan Yang Esa
Tanpa mengira bangsa dan rupa
Memberi petunjuk jalan mulia
Menjadi benteng penghalang dosa
Orang yang teguh iman
Sabar dengan ujian
Di akhirat dia insan yang mulia

Shaza asked me if I could go to Perdaus to help out with the ice-breaking session with the Sec 4s this morning. Wish I could go but firstly, my mum didn't allow and secondly, because I promised myself to lessen my involvement in so many activities anymore. It is kinda affecting my health and studies... I gotta sort things right first before I can go around running around everywhere like what I did last year. Perhaps I'd take a whole year to recuperate haha. Gosh, that's a longgg time. I love to get involved, but I can't. I would if I could but I can't so I won't. Boo hoo, but I gave the Mendaki appreciation tea and the session at Perdaus a miss and I feel... bad...

Anyway third reason why I couln't help out is because I have madrasah in the afternoon and it'd be a bit of a rush and I can't get tired... So, went to Andalus for my DPI class just now and continued with our module on Mustalah Hadith. I'm liking this DPI. It's an eye-opener so called. There's so much knowledge to learn and I simply love that. What I dread is having to do assignments... Boo hoo... What we are asked to do for this module is to type out a 5-page essay on one of the topics chosen. Dang, I had a hard time choosing. I'm so indecisive larh. And Miss Decisive Zakiah could make her decision so fast I feel like kicking her butt (haha, if you're reading this Zakiah, I'm being straightforward here eh). tried to draw my own lots and I didn't like the results. Kepth reading the 15 choices over and over again, thinking over each again and again. In the end, I chose what I followed the pull of my heartstrings (no kidding haha). But what I had in mind was topic 7: Sejarah penulisan (or something similar to that) Islam pada kurun kedua hijrah. In the end, I ended up telling Ustaz Husny I wanted topic 6, which is the same question butregarding kurun pertama hijrah. What the?? Abe nak tukar, I thought, nvmlah orget it so topic 6 it is!

Lately the mention of any quiz/test/exam/essay/presentation/project makes me wanna cry. Again, no kidding here. During kpr on Sat, Bro Helmi suggested having 'exam' and I nearly cried. There were tears in my eyes larh. I strongly object!! If there's exam for kpr, I'm so gonna attend the classses then purposely fail the exam lol. I love learning. I'm hungry for knowledge (and sometimes I do ask why and have never found the answers) but exams seriously deter me, especially when I already have 2 diplomas to handle ok!!

I hope kpr settles with quizzes like those we had on Sat. And book prizes are great! I read a bit of the book I got already. Hopefully I can finish by this Sat, then I can exchange with Liyana's book, or Zee's, or Faizal's or Hilmi's. They all look so interesting! Why not? They are books on our beloved prophet Muhammad s.a.w. anyway...

And his sirah is exactly what we're learning in kpr. Unlike the normal madrasah sirah classes we have attende though, in kpr, we'll be extracting out the learning points from Nabi's sirah and apply it in daily life! I truly look forward to this 'journey' kpr is gonna take us through. Through Nabi's sirah is the best for us to know Nabi's exemplary akhlak. And as I've mentioned before, hopefully I become a better person! Through kpr, I expect in terms of akhlak at least.

I seriously feel like dropping by Muslimedia tomorrow and spend $100 on books hehehehe. No kidding :P Jun, nak teman? Haha, but I'd need to ask that $100 from my mum first or at least ask permission if I can take from my bank account hehehe.

Oh btw, after class just now I wanted to ask Ust Husny something about the lesson (throughout the lesson I keep wanting to put up my hand and ask but couldn't! I'm remembered of the first time I put up my hand and felt my cheecks go warm and red ish.. Hermione, I need some of your brave genes!!) while my friends waited for me outside the class. Before I asked the qns, Ust was like, "Awak dari madrasah Aljunied eh?" I shook my head no. Then he asked, "Abe awak dari madrasah lain?" I was like, "Err, madrasah... Per-da-us..." He's still convinced I look familiar and asked, "Ade kakak sekolah madrasah?" Lol, Ust takde! Haha, this is not the first time people thought I'm from full-time madrasah and I shall take it as a compliment! Thank you :)

I feel like fasting to celebrate something. But I dunno what to celebrate lol. And my mum don't wanna fast tomorrow...

Klah, I have school tomorrow FYI and need my sleep to restore energy! Seriously I feel like a robot which needs lots of fuel and switch-off-times these days. So low on energy seh! And I eat a lot of carbohydrate that I put on quite a few kilos! I think I need chocolate as booster hahaha. Dairy milk, Ad?

KK, gotta go now. Nite nite! Eruantale signing off! Eruantale is Yana in Elvish in case you don't know :D

Results of Your IQ Test

IQ Score = 130

What does your score mean?
Wow! A score above 130 means that your performance on this test was way above average. Actually, according to this test, you are absolutely brilliant. Only a very small percentage of people score this high.

Results of the Emotional IQ Test

Your score = 90

What does your score mean?
There's some bad news and some good news. The bad news is that your Emotional IQ is relatively low. In a practical sense, this means that you are not reaching your full potential. Now for the good news: by learning and practicing new skills and more effective ways of dealing with people, you can significantly improve your EIQ.

Wahhhhhh! Low EQ eh, sedihx seh

3 Good News in 1 Day!

Thursday, November 29, 2007

1) My psycho group has come up with a suitable ad for our project. We just have to fine tune it a bit here and there to ease our work. Well, we are not exactly experts with video making and editing ok... Oh, and I get to become a small kid again! Wee!

2) I get to go to Stong with Saff!!! Woo hoo! But I must pay the $80 myself AND I must ensure my room is clean and neat hehehe.

3) I'm getting a laptop at $300!! I don't mind the investment! I mean firstly I do NEED that laptop. The only reason why I hesitate to buy is because I have to use my own money and it's such an 'ouch' using up >$1000 from my savings, which is meant for my uni after I obtain my diploma insyaAllah, for a machine. Seriously I doubt I'd get help from either Mendaki or CPF Boards. Without savings, how could I reach my dreams?

Hmm... It's past midnight and I haven't done my AMic essay!

Laughter is the best medicine. And I've been laughing and laughing until I can cry. Especially Titisan's last training before we break for Term Tests last night! We played 3 games.

1) We played this 'musical-chair'-like game. Four chairs were placed at each corner of the room and there's one 'monkey' in the middle. We must keep changing seats and we do that by signalling through eye contact with the other person across the room. Fun! And there were some super funny moments like when Haikal ran with his arms bent like a chicken wing and blocked the other person's way or when Sufi and Matin were fighting for the seat L-O-L! My strategy while exchanging seats was to be the first one to leave my seat instead of waiting for the other person to get up first. And while being the 'monkey', I stared at their eyes to prevent them having eye contacts with the others. But honestly lah, senang2 boleh sprain seh ankle!

2) Then we played the Cat-and-Mouse game. The last time I played it was in an open area and I was the Mouse. That time I kept running and running non-stop and hitting everyone in my way, even Fifi who was trying to ensure safety! Yesterday's session the conditons kept changing such as having to use alphabets to give directions or must crawl or must walk like a duck and such lah. When it was my turn, I had to crawl. Haha, I'm an expert! I was the Cat yesterday which makes things much easier! I crawled around the room as if all my life I'd been using four legs instead of two haha! Seriously, even they said that I was crawling so fast... My strategy was to try and keep my sense of direction even while Hid walk me and spin me around the room. But that was hard, I got lost halfway in the darkness. Sheesh, behind the blindfold I felt like I was in complete darkness but actually I wasn't. Second strategy was to focus on one voice. I guess I'm so used to Wani's voice by now that I can reognise it blindfolded and while crawling lol. Shut off the others, focus on Wani's voice and followed her directions and wa laa! I caught Wani! The part where Haikal was the Mouse and Rayhana was the Cat was funny. 11 secs seh! And their condition was they have to move sideways only like a crab. Oh oh! The part where Hafiz was Cat and Amalina was Mouse was worse! Their condition was to walk like a duck. Hafiz was waddling everywhere with his arms out and hugging whoever comes in his way, even Fifi! Lol, Fifi was flat against the wall shouting at Hafiz that she's not Amalina haha. Oh and Hafiz hit his head against the wall and Fifi didn't stop him lol!

3) We played 'concentration' and 'R-O-C-K' both of which if someone makes a mistake once we have a 'stupid' song to sing to and if she/he does another mistake, everyone will hit hit/her hand. Ouch, each hand came out super red after each round and ow ow ow Hid pinched Fifi and there was revenge alright. Pedih la seh! Suka eh korang menyakitkan kawan2 sendiri??

After the games was Spacejump and oh my my, you guyz are a creative bunch. Merepek2 tapi kelakar lah. Ade2 je eh. And well, Titisan brings out all the pent up emotions. If last time I cried my heart out, this time aku jadi gangster. Terkejut Hid haha, sry la beb, just reacting to the situation hehe.

Will always love Titisan...

Anyway, in school today Yuva and Kayathree calls me putih tikus cos I was wearing white pants and during lab I did a rat like posture lol.

Psycho

Monday, October 22, 2007

School started today. It was pretty ok, considering I only had one lecture: Psychology. I'm sure Psychology would be just as interesting as Sociology. Today's lecture was already insightful and it's just the first one!

The lecturer, Mr Jeff Neufeld, started the session by shouting at the whole lt to shut up, that it's his turn then to speak. Then he approached some of the students at the first few rows and asked nicely what did he just do. Then he asked, "So am I a nice person acting nasty or am I a nasty person acting nice?" Hmm... Good question. This kinda things interest me.

There were other things he did which made the lecture fun. He threw a pokeball softtoy at a girl to answer a question. But that girl didn't catch it and it bounced off her head! Lol. Then he told the class, "When I throw this you're supposed to catch it and not let it bounce on your head. If all of you refuse to catch this, I'll throw this... or this," while bringing out a harder toy ball and then a ROCK! Ok...

Then he showed us this video where there are two groups of people throwing two balls amongst themselves. He asked us to observe the 3 people wearing white and how many times they threw the ball, how many times they threw it overhead and how many times they bounced it to someone else. And so we observed. Some of us that it hehe. He went around to ask at the end of the video and turns out some didn't count, while those that counted got different answers. He then asked if we noticed anything else. The person he asked mentioned dribbling. So, then he showed us the video again, this time observe everything. Turns out while we were concentrating on the people wearing white throwing balls, someone in a black ape costume entered the scene, stood in the middle, waved at the viewers and left. Kwang3! I didn't notice it at all. And believe me, the way the 'ape'-man waved was so funny. And he didn't show another video cos Ad saw that ape! Before he replayed the video, Ad was telling me, "Monkey..." I thought she was saying they were playing monkey. Then it turned out... lol

But then... I'm gonna need to put in quite a lot of effort. This subject requires reading the textbook ( and the newspaper for that matter) . And I'm pretty sure the test would be as hard as socio's. AND the group project is a commercial on screws, hammers n that sort <-- like, okayyy...

I wonder what's in store for me tomorrow! For school I mean.

Plans for this week:
Tues: meet Kak Maryam to borrow notes, Ghufran meeting
Wed: NI T&D meeting, MAG meeting
Thurs: NI T&D meeting, visit Ustz Sakinah
Fri: go Chai Chee
Sat: Titisan trg & Fatayaat jln raya (or Saff?)
Sun: madrasah & NI jln raya

Waaaaaaah!!! Gawat, penuhnya! Uh oh...
